OVERVIEW:
The United States Peace Corps Nepal office is hiring qualified candidates for short term contract positions that support an intensive Volunteer Pre-Service Training (PST). Applicants must be willing to live in a village around or outside of the Kathmandu valley during contract period. This is a short-term position and for the duration of the project it requires a minimum of 40 hours per week; work during festivals & holidays that occur during the contract period may be required.
This is a project-based contract and may be renewed up to four future assignments without competition based on satisfactory performance, organizational need, and availability of funds. Compensation is negotiable within a pre-determined range, based on salary history and experience.
QUALIFICATIONS & SELECTION:
Applicants without minimum qualifications clearly outlined will not be competitive; preference is given to citizens residing in Nepal at the time of application. VACANCIES:
All positions require fluency in both written and spoken Nepali and English and computer proficiency with Microsoft Office. 1. Training Administrative Assistant (TAA)
Required qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Business studies or related field. Fluency in both written and spoken Nepali and English. Minimum of one year of experience providing administrative support to ensure efficient operation of an office. Expertise in Microsoft Office Application Usage (especially MS Word, Outlook, and Excel).

Desired qualifications — Experience in the following:
- Managing office operations, including coordination with vendors and staff, and by scheduling and assigning administrative projects to expedite work results.
- Overseeing supplies inventory process by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies.
- Making travel arrangements, including vehicle schedules, hotel accommodations, and restaurant reservations.
- Partnering with individuals with marginalized social identities (caste, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, and so on) in Nepal.
- Navigating language and culture in a rural village community setting in Nepal.
2. Training Site Secretary (TSS)
Required qualifications: Higher Secondary Education (+2)or equivalent. Fluent in both written and spoken Nepali and English. Minimum of six months of experience performing secretary and/or administrative tasks. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially MS Word, Outlook, and Excel). Ability to type both in English and Nepali.
Desired qualifications — Experience in the following:
- Greeting visitors, answering phones, taking messages, and redirecting requests for information to the appropriate points of contact.
- Organizing files and also copying, binding, and scanning documents.
- Conducting office supplies inventory, anticipating needed supplies; assisting with placing and expediting orders for supplies; and verifying receipt of supplies.
- Creating and managing staff travel plans and schedules.
- Partnering with individuals with marginalized social identities (caste, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, and so on) in Nepal.
- Navigating language and culture in a rural village community setting in Nepal.
3. Lead Language and Culture Facilitator (LLCF)
Required qualifications: University Bachelor's degree in any discipline. Minimum of 1 year experience of Nepali language teaching or tutoring in a formal or non-formal setting. Computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
Desired qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education, and experience in the following:
- Planning and implementing training of trainer or teacher training activities so participants can effectively develop, facilitate, and reflect upon Nepali language and culture sessions.
- Planning and implementing Nepali language and culture training sessions and other learning activities that embrace the Experiential Learning Cycle.
- Facilitating learning activities that promote collaborative, peer-supported learning.
- Partnering with individuals with marginalized social identities (caste, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, and so on) in Nepal.
- Navigating language and culture in a rural village community setting in Nepal.
- Work experience in cross-cultural setting with American or international organizations.
- Work experience in organizations that achieve their mission through volunteerism.
4. Language and Culture Facilitators (LCFs)
Required qualifications: University Bachelor's degree in any discipline. Fluency in both written and spoken Nepali and English. Minimum of 6 months of experience teaching or tutoring learners in a formal or non-formal setting.
Computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
Desired qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Education, and experience in the following:
- Facilitating learning activities that promote collaborative, peer-supported learning.
- Partnering with individuals with marginalized social identities (caste, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, and so on) in Nepal.
- Navigating language and culture in a rural village community setting in Nepal.
- Work experiece in a cross-cultural settings with American or international organizations
- Work experience in organizations that achieve their mission through volunteerism.
5. Food Security Technical Trainer (FSTT)
Required qualifications: University Bachelor's degree in a Project-related subject (Agriculture, Health). Minimum 1-year experience working alongside village community members on locally-prioritized agriculture projects in Nepal. Computer proficiency in MS Office: Windows, Excel, Word.
Desired qualifications:
University Bachelor's degree in Agriculture or Food Security, and experience in the following:
- Providing direct technical support on beekeeping and the cultivation of fruit trees, ginger, turmeric, and mushrooms in rural village settings in Nepal.
- Partnering with rural community members (especially groups of farmers, women, and youth) to identify, enhance, and mobilize their strengths to address community interests and priorities.
- Planning and implementing training sessions and other learning activities that embrace the Experiential Learning Cycle.
- Facilitating learning environments that promote collaborative, peer-supported learning.
- Partnering with individuals with marginalized social identities (caste, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, and so on) in Nepal.
- Navigating language and culture in a rural village community setting in Nepal.
- Work experience in a cross-cultural setting with American or international organizations.
- Work experience with organizations that achieve their mission through volunteerism.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes we look for all these positions:
Communication:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, conflict management skills, diplomacy, and tact with staff, Volunteers, Trainees, community members, and members of the government. Is cross-culturally sensitive and strives to communicate openly.
Motivation:
Ability to work independently and proactively, self-motivated and adaptable to constantly changing situations, and accepts responsibility.
Professionalism:
Maintains confidentiality regarding Volunteer issues and other information, and possesses a strong sense of integrity. Sets a positive example for peers and PCVs in the performance of professional duties (is punctual, diligent, well-groomed, etc.). Acts as a team member in a consensus-building atmosphere, encourages constructive feedback and accepts suggestions for improvement, and willingly responds to reasonable requests from both colleagues and supervisors in a timely manner.
Candidates will receive credit for all qualifying experiences, including volunteer experience. To ensure full credit for your experience, please indicate dates of employment by month, day, and year and the number of hours worked per week in your resume.
EVALUATION PROCESS:
Prior to any contract offer, at a minimum
-Peace Corps will evaluate resumes and cover letters to create a shortlist.
Short-listed candidates will be invited for group/personal interviews, as well as may be asked to participate in practical written and/or oral exercises to assess skill levels.
Top candidates will be asked to submit names and contact information for at least 3 references; one reference must be a present/former supervisor or professor.
