SOS Children's Villages Nepal as a non-governmental social development organisation support children without parental care and families in difficult living conditions through services in care, education, health and emergency relief. We are now looking for interested and qualified individuals for the various positions at our National Office based in Sanothimi.
1. National Director (1)
Location: National Office, Sanothimi with frequent location and international visits
Position Purpose (Mission):
The National Director develops and Implements the 'Aims, Objectives and Policies' of SOS Children's Villages Nepal to ensure high quality services to children, young people and employees according to the defined organisation standards. She represents SOS Children's Villages Nepal and builds network and collaborates with key stake holders such as the government, development sector agencies and potential partners. She works in close coordination and cooperation with International Director- Asia or his/ her representative towards development and implementation of organization's policies. S/he reports to the Board of SOS Children's Villages Nepal.
Key Performance Areas and Main Responsibilities:
Identifies and aligns the federation strategies and policies at the national level based on the local needs and realities. Develops and implements strategic and development plans for the organisation at national level based on the direction of the Board of Directors and in conformity with the policies of the organisation through International Director- Asia or his/ her representative.
Guides and supports Location Leaders and Programme Heads to ensure implementation of agreed plans at programme level, and effective and efficient use of resources (e.g. human, financial, material and physical) through robust administrative system for the sustainability and development of programmes.
Liaises and coordinates with the International Director- Asia or his/ her representative with a clear aim to strengthen the organisation's functioning in SOS Children's Villages Nepal.
Takes all necessary steps to ensure that the organisation's functioning is in full conformity with the National Laws and Regulations. Ensures timely completion of reporting regulations of the organization and implementation of policies and standards of the organisation. Represents organisation at national level and propagates the SOS-Model with relevant stakeholders. Builds network & collaborates with key stakeholders such as the government, development sector agencies and potential partners for programme objectives.
Participates and performs necessary activities in case of an emergency situation (natural disaster, war. etc.) according to the actual needs. Work towards self-sustainability; strengthens the local fund raising initiatives.
Acts as a custodian of brand, ensures that brand principles are followed and brand identity is enhanced across the country. Supports capacity building of co-workers with a vision to having resources in place as per required skill-set and standards. Devotes time for the SOS Children's Villages International work as per agreement made from time to time.
Basic Requirements
- Masters' Degree in any discipline with minimum 15 years of relevant experience in the organized sector and minimum B years of experience in the leadership and/or management position, especially in:
- Leading and managing people that includes team building, planning and problem solving to ensure quality services to program participants (e.g. caregivers. coworkers, children and young people. etc.)
- Program coordination, fund generation and fund management.
- Managing issues, challenges and opportunities of a non-profit organization.
2. Deputy National Director (1)
Location: National Office, Sanothimi with frequent location visits
Position Purpose (Mission):
The Deputy National Director plays instrumental role in leading and managing strategic and operational activities in order to ensure effectiveness and efficiency
of all programmes around the country to guarantee high quality services to children, young people and employees according to the defined standards.
Key Performance Areas and Main Responsibilities:
- Supports the National Director in designing, leading and managing relevant programmes in order to meet the organisation's aims, goals and objectives, and to ensure that values are intact and policies are adhered.
- Takes initiatives to assess strengths and challenges of programmes and is able to guide and support Location Leaders and Project Heads to ensure effective and efficient use of resources (e.g. human, financial, material and physical) through robust administrative system for the sustainability and development of programmes.
- Ensures organisation's compliance such as policies and practices of SOS Children's Villages International and the law of the land.
- Promotes conducive environment for children, young people and employees through effective implementation of Child Protection Policy. Code of
- Conduct, Integrity, Compliance S Legal; and other policy level interventions and proper awareness, prevention, reporting and responding mechanisms.
- Supports the National Director in building and enhancing professional relationships with funding partners. Regional and International Offices, government agencies and likeminded organisations.
Basic Requirements

- Managing issues. challenges and opportunities of a nonprofit organisation.

3. Communication Officer
Location: National Office, Sanothimi with frequent location visits
Position Purpose (Mission):
The Communication Officer is responsible for supporting the communication needs and strengthen the internal and external communication for ongoing programmes of SOS Children's Village Nepal. This includes the production of all digital and print-based programme briefs, drafting of press releases and other external communications capacities including emergency communication and media handling, planning events, and maintaining adherence to branding guidelines. S/he ensures that promotional and communication products and platforms are consistent with SOS brand standards and should maintain network with communication practitioners in Nepal.
Key Performance Areas and Main Responsibilities:
- Acts as a contact point in dose cooperation with programme locations with the aim to coordinate and facilitate easy and speedy flow of communication
- Ensures communication consistency with the SOS Children's Villages International's overall strategy, relevant policies, brand strategy.
- Supports in dealing with crisis communication management and pre-emptive planning this includes understanding the importance of timing and setting regarding responding to crisis communication and setbacks.
- Produces high quality communication materials including webpage updates, blogs, social media, reports, brochures. multi-media presentations, drafts and issue press releases for internal as well as external audiences. This required planning. designing, developing and disseminating print products and audio-visuals of the SOS Children's Villages Nepal materials to promote its programme activities.
- Maintains the quality of the documents through effective editing and proof-reading: reporting and printing materials both in English and Nepali.
- Develops and maintains dose collaboration with journalists and media professionals in Nepal.
- Monitors and analyses media coverage. distributing news to the media this includes organizing and supporting press conference, media events or other special events.
- Prepares contextual materials. arranges appointments, accompanies the visits of external guests particularly from Promoting and Supporting
- Provides support to programme location teams in understanding reporting requirements and formats; follow up with programme location teams to meet reporting deadlines.
Qualification, Experience and Skills:
- Bachelors degree in Journalism or communications discipline with minimum 5 years of relevant work experience or Masters degree in Journalism and communications discipline with minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in communication, print and broadcast media, interactive digital media or communications and press departments, (preference will be given to the candidates who have relevant working experience in the development sectors).
- Sound knowledge of communication strategies, and information technology that includes in depth knowledge of crisis communication management for developing communication strategy, handling media inquiries, and preparing press statements.
- Excellent communication skills in English & Nepali and proficiency in computer applications and well versed in latest electronic publishing methods (e.g. adobe packages.)
- Excellent interpersonal skills and positive attitude.
- Experience of working with children and young people will be an added advantage
