Koshi Victims Society (KVS) Job Vacancy for Livelihood Officer, Social Mobilizer, and JTA:
KOSHI VICTIM'S SOCIETY (KVS), is a non-political and non-profitable organization established in 2003 in Saptari District of Nepal. Since then, KVS is seriously engaged in humanitarian assistance, community development, conservation of natural resources, and environmental protection mainly in humanitarian and long-term development projects.
In partnership with LWR, KVS Nepal is starting a project SAKSHAM in Saptkoshi, Kanchanrup, Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality, and Tilathikoiladi Rural Municipality of Saptari district. KVS is seeking qualified, dynamic, and self-motivated Nepali citizens in the following positions for the successful implementation of the project.
1. Position: Livelihood Officer -1
Duration: for one year preferably extension
Type of the Position: Fixed Term (Project Period)
Job Summary:
The Livelihood Officer will be responsible for providing technical backstopping to the project team in resilient livelihoods technologies introduction, promotion, and adoption. He / She will be the key person in identifying Climate Smart Agricultural Practices, resilient crop varieties, etc. and transferring the CSA knowledge and skills to the vulnerable farmers in the project areas through orientations, training, demonstrations, etc. He / She will maintain close coordination with the local government agricultural experts, farmers groups, and private sectors providing agricultural inputs and services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identification of appropriate Climate Smart Agricultural (CSA) Practices for the project areas and planning for knowledge and skills transfer to the target beneficiaries.
- Identification of resilient crop varieties based on the target groups' demand, quantity estimate, and ensuring quality seed and input supply to the beneficiaries.
- Provide technical support, supervision, and monitoring to the lead farmers in establishing demonstration plots and their promotion.
- Support in preparation/verification of technical design estimate for poly house commercial nurseries, small scale drip, and solar irrigation
- schemes etc.
- Provide technical inputs and field-based data and information for resilient farming crop calendars, agro-advisories, etc.
- Coordinate with private insurance companies for awareness-raising and promotion of agricultural and livestock insurance in the project area.
- Coordinate with private agricultural companies for establishing/strengthening relationships between buyer and seller (farmers) for the sustainable supply chain of agricultural products and services.
- Close coordination with the agriculture section of the municipalities, agricultural experts, agricultural service centers, and other relevant
- stakeholders for leveraging local resources, experiences, and expertise in resilient livelihood promotion in the target communities.
- Lead agricultural meetings, orientations, training, and visit, etc. for introduction, promotion knowledge and skill transfer and adoption of
- Climate Smart Agricultural Practices to the vulnerable farmers in the project communities.
- Support Project Coordinator in project planning, implementation, monitoring, and documentation of project activities and progress.
Academic Qualification and Professional Skills
- A minimum of bachelor’s degree in agricultural science from a recognized University (Master’s degree preferred).
- At least four years of professional experience in agricultural-related projects with a focus on Climate-Smart Agricultural Practices and Resilient Livelihoods.
- Experience of working in donor-funded projects and coordinating with district and municipal level government and non-government stakeholders.
Essential Skills and Expertise
- Proficient in Nepali and English languages. Proficiency in local languages of the project areas will be an added advantage
- Good computer skills in MS Office Package, PowerPoint Presentation, email, internet, etc.
- Proficient in report writing and good communication skills desired.
- Experience and skills in facilitating training, meetings, and orientations for rural farmers.
- Good knowledge and experience in addressing gender and social inclusion issues in community-based disaster risk reduction and management
2. Position: Social Mobilizer (SM) -2
Duration: for one year preferably extension
Type of the Position: Fixed Term (Project Period)
Job Summary: For ensuring better implementation, monitoring, and achieving quality results; Social Mobilizers need to play the crucial roles for community mobilization. S/he ensures better coordination and communication among the target communities, Local government, key stakeholders, and project beneficiaries. The Social Mobilizer is expected to perform but not limited to the following roles and responsibilities.
Major roles and responsibilities:
- Community Group Formation (Community Disaster Management Committees (CDMC), Task Forces, Farmers Groups, etc.) and mobilization in the target areas for community-based disaster risk reduction (DRR) and resilient livelihoods.
- Orient the target communities and beneficiaries about the project goal, objectives, outcomes, outputs, activities, and their engagement in community-based DRR, early warning system (EWS), saving and credit, resilient farming practices, agriculture commercialization, etc.
- Conduct or facilitate group management, institutional development, leadership training, etc. for the CDMC and farmers groups.
- Support the Project Coordinator and project team in organizing different pieces of training, workshops, farmers, schools, orientations, etc. and selecting the participants.
- Carry out necessary follow up activities to ensure that the project output and outcomes are in line with the project objectives.
- Support in selecting the project beneficiaries as per the selection criteria, assist in the material distribution in coordination with the CDMCs and local government representatives.
- Support the project in organizing different flood preparedness and response activities like flood simulation exercise, early warning dissemination, seed and grain banks, etc.
- Support the project coordinator in field survey and database management of the project beneficiaries, the support provided, impacts, results, etc.
- Community mobilization for local resource generation and leveraging towards achieving the project goals. Awareness-raising to the communities regarding DRR, early warning, insurance, saving and credit, finance resilience, etc. through training, orientations, door to door events, etc.
- Support in the logistic arrangement at field level for monitoring visits, evaluations, donor visits, etc.
- Prepare field reports, data, case studies showing the impact of the project at the community level.
- Follow the instructions and guidance given by the organization.
- The SM is required to provide 90% of the duty time at the community level and the rest of the time in office for reporting and documentation.
Minimum Qualification and Experience Requirement:
- Should have at least School Leaving Certificate (+2 level studies preferred) from a recognized institution.
- At least three years of experience in community mobilization. Preference shall be given to one with experience in community-based disaster risk reduction and early warning systems.
- Strong skills in the linkage, networking, and communication with target communities, beneficiaries, local government representatives, and stakeholders.
- Strong report writing (computer typing) and communication skills.
- Should be fluent in Nepali and Maithali languages.
- 2-wheeler driving license holder preferred.
3. Position: Agriculture Technician (JTA) -2
Duration: for one year preferably extension
Type of the Position: Fixed Term (Project Period)
Job Summary: For ensuring better implementation, monitoring, and achieving quality results; Agriculture technicians need to play the crucial roles for community mobilization and promotion of climate-smart agricultural practices. S/he ensures better coordination and communication among the target communities, Local government's agriculture and livestock department, farmers groups, and other key stakeholders and agencies working in the area. The major roles and responsibilities of JTA but not limited to are:

- Support Resilient Livelihood Officer in promotion of climate-smart agricultural practices, identification of resilient crop varieties and orient the farmers on resilient farming practices like demonstration plots, improved irrigation, tunnel farming, etc.
- Demand collection of the farmers for resilient crop varieties, support in quantity estimate, and orient farmers on its proper use.
- Conduct or facilitate group management, institutional development, leadership training, climate-resilient farming, etc. for the CDMC and farmers groups.
- Support the Project Coordinator and project team in organizing different types of training, workshops, farmers, schools, orientations, etc. and selecting the participants.
- Carry out necessary follow up activities to ensure that the project output and outcomes are in line with the project objectives.
- Support in selecting the project beneficiaries as per the selection criteria, assist in the material distribution in coordination with the CDMCs and local government representatives.

- The JTA is required to provide 90% of the duty time at the community level and the rest of the time in office at Rajbiraj for reporting and documentation.
Minimum Qualification and Experience Requirement:
- Should have completed the Junior Technical Assistant course in agriculture from a recognized institution.
- At least three years of experience working in development projects and promoting climate-smart agricultural practices.
- Strong skills in the linkage, networking, and communication with government and concerned stakeholders.
- Strong report writing (computer typing) and communication skills.
- Fluent in Nepali, Maithali languages
- A person with a 2-wheeler driving license preferred.
