Preparations have been made to reduce the tenure of Myadi Police personnel to be recruited for the local election security on May 13, 2022 (2079 Baishakh 30).
In the past, the tenure of Myadi Police was 55 to 60 days (two months). This time, it is being prepared to make only one month or 40 days. The salary facility will be available accordingly.
For Myadi Police, like Jawan, there is an arrangement to provide a salary of around Rs. 24000 / -, dress allowance of Rs. 5000 / - and meal expenses.
Training is done from one week to 10 days. According to the police headquarters, the main reasons are the budget and the election period.
There are 75 days left until the election. Prior to that, Myadi Prahari has to be trained for ten days a week. In the past, the term was dismissed with two monthly salary facilities. However, this time it is mentioned in the election security action plan of Nepal Police that they are preparing to leave within 10 days of one month.
Central Police Spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police Bishnukumar KC says that the Myadi Police recruitment process could not be conducted as the budget has not been approved by the Ministry of Finance. It is estimated that about one lakh 18 thousand Myadi police recruits. For this, the work department under the Police Headquarters is coordinating and cooperating with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Central Election Security Cell, formed under the coordination of the Additional Inspector General of Police Sahakul Thapa, has already sent an action plan on election security preparations and budget to the Home Ministry.
He said, “Police manpower for local elections is 74,000, Myadi Police is 118,000; A total budget of Rs 12 billion has been demanded the purchase of weapons, security, and communication equipment, including a proposal to deploy about 1,500 vehicles. Similarly, it has been proposed to mobilize 32,000 security personnel from the Armed Police Force. "
About 225,000 security personnel including Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and temporary personnel will be deployed.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has also stated that the security preparations for the local elections have reached the final stage.
Home Ministry spokesperson Phanindra Mani Pokharel said that all preparations have been completed on behalf of the Home Ministry but it is stuck in the budget. The Election Security Management and Preparation Committee has been formed under the Ministry of Home Affairs under the leadership of Chief Spokesperson of the Peace, Security, and Crime Control Division, Pokhrel.
The Ministry has prepared the necessary action plan for the mobilization of Nepal Police and Armed Police and the recruitment and operation of Myadi Police. The Election Commission has stated that about 10 thousand 870 polling stations will be set up. Regarding the security sensitivity of the polling station, the concerned district administration and police office are preparing the list.
According to the same list, it has been decided to deploy seven security personnel including three policemen and four Mayadi Praharis at the general polling station. Four policemen and six Myadi Prahari were killed in the sensitive polling station. There are plans to deploy up to 11/12 security personnel including five policemen and six Myadi in the most sensitive areas.
It is said that armed police will be mobilized for security patrol of polling stations and transportation of ballot boxes. The Ministry of Home Affairs has estimated that around Rs 18 to 20 billion will be spent on election security alone.
