History

Established in 1982, SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Gandaki has a rich history rooted in its commitment to providing quality education to children in need. The school was established as a response to the devastating landslide that occurred in Kaski and Syangja districts of Nepal in 1980, which left many children without parental care. It became a part of SOS Children's Village Gandaki, providing a nurturing home environment for these children.

In 1982, SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Gandaki was founded to fulfill the educational needs of the children residing in SOS Children's Village Gandaki and the surrounding community. Initially, the school started as a primary school, offering classes from Nursery to Grade Five, with operational permission granted by the SOS National Executive Committee, Nepal.

Over the years, the school expanded its academic offerings. Grade Six was introduced in the academic session 2040/2041 BS, followed by Grade Seven in 2041/2042 BS. The school continued to grow, with Grade Eight, Nine, and Ten introduced in subsequent academic sessions, obtaining operational permission for each grade.

In 2047 BS, SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Gandaki witnessed a milestone as it participated in the national level School Leaving Certificate (SLC) examination for the first time, with 32 students successfully appearing for the examination.

To further enhance its educational offerings, the school obtained affiliation from the Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB) on 2053/04/14 BS. This affiliation marked the beginning of Grade 11 in the Science stream from the academic session 2052/2053 BS, with an initial enrollment of 23 students. With this addition, SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Gandaki became a complete K-12 school, setting a precedent among the seven Hermann Gmeiner Schools in Nepal by being the first to offer Grades 11 and 12.

Through its dedication to providing a holistic education, SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Gandaki has established itself as a pioneer in the field of education, creating opportunities for children from diverse backgrounds to thrive academically and personally. With its strong foundation and commitment to excellence, the school continues to shape the lives of its students and make a lasting impact in the community.
