Scholarship Information for the Master's and MPhil Levels at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Pokhara University. Pokhara University, under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, invites applications through an open competition for free scholarships for the upcoming Spring 2025 Intake of the Master's and MPhil programs offered at its constituent and affiliated colleges and higher secondary schools, in accordance with the Pokhara University Scholarship Regulations, 2065.

The scholarships are primarily targeted at students who have studied in government, public, or fully government-funded schools and have passed from Class 6 to SEE/SLC (Class 10). Candidates who have passed SEE/SLC from institutional or private schools may also participate in the competitive examination.

1. Types of Scholarships:  

(a) Jehandar Scholarship  

(b) Open Scholarship  

(c) Local Scholarship  

(d) Dalit Scholarship  

(e) Janajati Scholarship  

(f) Remote Scholarship  

(g) Scholarship for the Differently-Abled, Martyrs, and those Injured in Popular Movements  

(h) Teacher, Employee Offspring Scholarship  

(i) Madheshi Community Scholarship

Among the available seats, apart from the Jehandar Scholarship and the Teacher, Employee Offspring Scholarship, 60 percent of the seats for various programs are allocated under the open category and 40 percent are reserved for Dalit, Janajati, remote areas, the differently-abled, martyrs and those injured in popular movements, and the Madheshi community. In addition, 50 percent of the seats in both the open and reserved scholarships are reserved for women.

Although the scholarships are primarily intended for students who have studied in government, public, or fully government-funded schools and who have passed from Class 6 to SEE/SLC (Class 10), if, after the publication of the third phase Scholarship Award List and the subsequent distribution of scholarships as per the Pokhara University Scholarship Regulations, 2065, any quota/seat remains vacant in the free scholarship category allocated for students from government schools, then only those candidates who have passed SEE/SLC from institutional or private schools and are included in the Pokhara University scholarship merit list will be selected for those vacant quotas. In this manner, the scholarship seats available for candidates who have passed SEE/SLC from institutional or private schools will be allocated based on their merit list in the same manner as the open scholarships.

2. Programs for which Scholarships are available:  

a) Master in Population, Gender and Development (MPGD) – 5 Seats (SDSE, Pokhara)  

b) Master of Arts in English – 3 Seats (IACER, Kathmandu)  

c) MPhil in English – 3 Seats (IACER, Kathmandu)

3. Minimum Eligibility Requirements for Candidates:

To apply for the scholarship, candidates must fulfill the following qualifications and conditions:

(a) The candidate must be a Nepalese citizen.

(b) For the Master in Population, Gender and Development (MPGD) programs, the candidate must have completed a Bachelor's degree in any subject.

(c) For the MPhil in English program, the candidate must have completed a Master's degree in any subject.

(d) For the Master's programs, the candidate must have passed their Bachelor's degree with a CGPA of 2.00/4.00 or with a second division.

(e) For the MPhil programs, the candidate must have passed their Master's degree with a CGPA of 3.00/4.00 or with 50 percent marks.

(f) The candidate must have studied in a government, public, or fully government-funded school and have passed from Class 6 to SEE/SLC (Class 10). However, even if the available scholarship quota stipulates that the candidate must have passed SEE/SLC from a government or public school, in the event that vacancies remain in the available quota, candidates who have passed SEE/SLC from institutional or private schools will also be allocated scholarships based on merit.

(g) For postgraduate studies, only candidates whose Bachelor’s degree completion date does not exceed a period of 3 years are eligible to apply.

(h) There is no time limit for applying to the MPhil program after the completion of the Master's degree.

(i) For the Teacher, Employee Offspring Scholarship, the terms will be as specified in the Scholarship Regulations, 2065.

4. The Required Documents to be Submitted by the Candidate:

4.1. All candidates who have studied in government, public, or fully government-funded schools and have passed SLC or SEE (Class 10) must submit the following documents along with their application:  

(a) A copy of the Nepali citizenship certificate.  

(b) For the postgraduate level, a copy of the mark sheet and character certificate showing that the candidate has passed the SLC or an equivalent examination (such as Dasha Jod Dua or Certificate level exam) as well as the Bachelor’s level examination.  

(c) For the MPhil program, in addition to the documents mentioned in (b), a copy of the mark sheet and character certificate showing that the candidate has passed the Master’s level.  

(d) For candidates who have completed studies from a foreign university: a copy of the equivalency certificate.  

(e) A recommendation letter—as per Schedule 2—certifying that the candidate’s school is a government or public school.

4.2. In addition to the aforementioned documents, candidates applying under the targeted quota must also submit the following documents along with their application:  

(a) For the local scholarship: a letter of recommendation from Pokhara Metropolitan City or the concerned ward office certifying that the candidate is a permanent resident of Pokhara Metropolitan City.  

(b) For the Dalit scholarship: a letter of recommendation from the National Dalit Commission or the concerned District Administration Office.  

(c) For the Indigenous/Janajati scholarship: a letter of recommendation—certifying the candidate as Indigenous/Janajati—issued by the Indigenous and Janajati Uthhan National Institution or the concerned District Administration Office.  

(d) For the Remote scholarship: a recommendation letter from the relevant Rural Municipality.  (e) For candidates with disabilities: a letter of recommendation certifying the disability, issued by the National Federation of the Differently-Abled or the concerned District Administration Office.  

(f) For the children of martyr families, for those injured in popular movements, or for the children of individuals whose family members have been reported missing: a recommendation letter issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of Nepal or the concerned District Administration Office.  

(g) For the Madheshi scholarship: a recommendation letter issued by the concerned District Administration Office.

4.3. All candidates who have studied in public schools as well as in institutional or private schools and have passed SLC/SEE (Class 10) must submit the following photocopies of documents along with their application:  

(a) A certified copy of the citizenship certificate.  

(b) Photocopies of the mark sheet and character certificate for the SLC or SEE (Class 10) or its equivalent examination, and all mark sheets and character certificates for all levels up to the level immediately preceding that for which the scholarship is being applied.

4.4. Regarding Provisional Online Application Form Submission:

Candidates filling out the online application form will be permitted to do so even if, at the time of online application for the Master’s level, the final-year/semester/trimester examination results of the Bachelor’s level—or for the MPhil level, the final-year/semester/trimester results of the Master’s level—have not yet been published, or if they have been published but the transcript and character certificate are still pending. However, once the Scholarship Selection Committee publishes the pass list, candidates who have provisionally applied will also be included in that list; nevertheless, they must submit their transcript and character certificate within the stipulated time. Otherwise, even if their names appear on the pass list, they will not be included in the subsequent scholarship process.

Thus, candidates submitting their applications when the final-year/semester results of the Bachelor’s level (for the Master’s program) or the final-year/semester/trimester results of the Master’s level (for the MPhil program) have not been published—or if published but the transcript and character certificate are pending—must submit the following additional documents:  

(a) For the Master’s program: the admission letter for the final-year/semester/trimester examination of the Bachelor’s level and all mark sheets showing successful completion of all preceding years/semesters/trimesters.  

(b) For the MPhil program: the admission letter for the final-year/semester/trimester examination of the Master’s level and all mark sheets showing successful completion of all preceding years/semesters/trimesters.
