Understanding the Grading System

This year, NEB implemented the 2072 BS grading system for the last time. Under this system, students can pass if they achieve a combined 35 percent in theoretical and practical assessments. The grading scale is as follows:

Grade Description Score Range Grade Point
A+ Outstanding 90 - 100% 4.0
A Excellent 80 - <90% 3.6
B+ Very Good 70 - <80% 3.2
B Good 60 - <70% 2.8
C+ Satisfactory 50 - <60% 2.4
C Acceptable 40 - <50% 2.0
D Basic >35% 1.6
NG Non-graded <35% 0
  • A+ for 90-100 percent
  • A for 80-90 percent
  • B+ for 70-80 percent
  • B for 60-70 percent
  • C+ for 50-60 percent
  • C for 40-50 percent
  • D+ for 30-40 percent
  • D for 20-30 percent
  • E for below 20 percent

Grading System and Subject Eligibility after SEE

It's essential to understand the implications of the SEE results, especially with regard to the grading system and subsequent subject eligibility for the students.

Old Grading System Applies

In an intriguing twist, NEB has reverted to the old grading system for this year's results. This grading system attributes an 'E' grade based on the marks obtained by the students. Notably, the rule of giving an 'NG' (Non-Graded) on the certificate for students who did not secure 35 marks in theory and 40 marks in practical has not been applied this year.

No Failures, Only Opportunities

An uplifting aspect of the SEE results 2079/2080 is that no student has failed. However, students' scores determine their eligibility to pursue specific subjects in class 11. This scoring system reflects the government's intention to guide students toward the subjects in which they exhibit the strongest aptitude.

Subject Eligibility Post SEE

For students looking forward to joining class 11, they need a minimum 'D plus' in English, Mathematics, Science, Nepali, and Social Sciences. Aspiring science students must attain a 'C plus' in science and mathematics. The science group includes Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Math, Computer Science, and Agriculture. To study these subjects, students need to achieve a minimum GPA of 2.

The skill group - which includes Animal science, plant science, electrical engineering, civil engineering, and computer engineering - is open to students with a minimum GPA of 1.6, regardless of the subject grade.

Candidates with a GPA of 1.6 who have achieved a 'D Plus' in Mathematics, Nepali, English, Social Studies, and Science are eligible for the Management and Humanities subject group.

Opportunity for Grade Improvement

NEB also provides an opportunity for grade enhancement. Candidates who have received a 'C' grade or lower in the theoretical subject can opt for the grade increase test. Furthermore, candidates can also take the exam in subjects where they were absent or grades were not revealed in up to two subjects during the main examination.

In conclusion, the SEE result 2079/2080 serves as a stepping stone for students to explore and embrace subjects that align with their academic strengths and interests. It's a transformative phase, steering students toward a promising future.

Exam Statistics
