The Department of Foreign Employment has announced the results for the second phase of the EPS-TOPIK 2023 exam, aimed at individuals aspiring to work in South Korea's manufacturing sector. Out of the 66,326 participants who appeared for the exam between 31st Baisakh and 16th Shrawan, a total of 8,965 candidates have successfully passed.

Exam Participation and Results

  • A significant number of 79,937 candidates were registered for the second phase of the language exam, with 66,326 actually taking the test.
  • The Human Resources Department (HRD) of South Korea released the results, marking a crucial step for those seeking employment opportunities in South Korea.

Phase-wise Breakdown of Results

  • In the first phase of the exam, 5,753 candidates successfully passed both the language and skill tests out of 40,580 participants. While 6,321 candidates passed the language test, 741 did not clear the skill test.
  • The current set of results is part of a larger selection process that will ultimately choose 16,400 candidates over three phases of exams.
  • The 8,965 candidates who have passed this second phase are now required to complete the skill test.

Implications and Next Steps

  • The HRD Korea has expedited the results publication due to the dwindling number of youths on the roster who are ready to work in Korea.
  • The notification for the skill test for those who passed the language exam in this phase will be issued shortly.
  • Given the rising demand for Nepali workers in South Korea, especially under the EPS program, the results were promptly released to align with the plan to deploy the maximum number of workers from Nepal among the 16 participating countries.

Director's Statement and Future Outlook

  • According to the branch director, Maiya Kandel, out of the 143,812 applicants for the language exam, the plan is to select and send 16,400 candidates. The youths who have passed are advised to prepare for the employer selection process, expected to take place in June.
  • The increased quota for Nepali workers in 2024 indicates a record number of Nepalis securing employment in South Korea this year. In 2023, 19,698 Nepalis entered Korea through the EPS program, with 2,792 having already left in 2024.
  • South Korea has also increased the employment quota by 13.2%, raising the total to 16,400, citing the diligent work ethic and legal residency of Nepali workers.
  • For 2024, South Korea plans to employ more than 22,000 Nepali youths, expanding its workforce beyond the traditional sectors of agriculture, livestock, manufacturing, and skill-building. The recruitment process is expected to be expedited by altering the sectoral allocation for those currently on the roster.

This announcement underscores the growing opportunities for Nepali youths in South Korea, and the importance of timely preparation for those who have passed the language exam.
