Zahur Alam: A Dedicated Teacher Honored for His Contributions
Zahur Alam, a science teacher from Yamunamai Rural Municipality-3 in Rautahat, Nepal, dedicated three decades of his life to teaching at Janjagriti Secondary School in Malkbang, Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-5 in Myagdi. He came to Myagdi in 2050 for a job after graduating in science.
Alam was appointed as a science teacher by Tul Bahadur Chantyal, the then-chairman of the school management committee, from private sources with permission from the education office. He walked for two days from the district headquarters, Beni, to reach the school. Despite facing challenges in the remote areas of Myagdi, Alam continued to teach at the same school for 30 years.
In 2051 BS, the school was upgraded to Secondary School by starting 9th class. In 2057 BS, Alam became the principal of the school. However, he will be compulsorily retiring on 2080 AShoj 3. To honor his contributions, locals and former students recently honored him.
Former students of the school, in particular, initiated the honor. The Malkbang Society UK presented him with a certificate and cash worth Rs 1 lakh at a function held at the school. Sher Chantyal, president of Malkbang Samaj UK, presented the award and said, "Alam has been honored for his contribution in upgrading the school through his teaching profession."
After receiving the award, Headmaster Alam expressed his gratitude to the villagers for their immense love and support. He said that despite facing hardships in remote areas, he spent three decades enjoying teaching. Alam also acknowledged the positive support and contribution of Malkbang residents in the country and abroad in running the school.
Alam's family is currently living in Rautahat. After working as a private teacher in the school for two years, Alam was appointed to a temporary government quota and was posted in another school. However, the villagers protested, and he was brought back to the school. He passed the examination in 2053 BS and entered the permanent teaching service after successfully publishing the secondary level third-grade post of the Teacher Service Commissioner in 2060 BS. He was promoted to the secondary level second grade in 2067 BS.
Zahur Alam is a dedicated teacher who has made significant contributions to education in remote areas of Nepal. His dedication and commitment have been recognized and honored by his students and the community.
