Twice the Number of Students Apply for NOC in February Compared to January

Foreign education is becoming increasingly popular among students in Nepal. This is evidenced by the significant increase in the number of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) issued in February as compared to January. According to the foreign study permit branch under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, 13,945 students applied for NOC in February. This is almost double the number of NOCs issued in January, which was 7,618.

Possible Reasons for the Increase in NOC Applications

The head of the branch, Vasudev Vasti, suggests that the number of NOC applicants increased in February due to the availability of language studies in Japan. In January, only 158 students applied for NOC to Japan, but in February, this number increased to 8,091. Overall, 25,152 students applied for NOC in February.

Revenue Generated by NOC in February

NOC is a valuable source of revenue for the Nepalese government. In February alone, NOC earned NPR 28.9 million 42 thousand in revenue. This highlights the importance of foreign education for both students and the government.

NOC Applications by Country

In February, the majority of students (2,610) applied for NOC to study in Australia. Meanwhile, 1,660 students applied for NOC to study in Canada. This is a significant decrease from January, where 3,517 students applied for NOC to study in Australia and 2,248 students applied for NOC to study in Canada. In total, NOC was issued for 36 countries that month.

Overall, The increase in NOC applications in February indicates a growing interest in foreign education among Nepalese students. The availability of language studies in Japan and the increasing popularity of Australian universities may have contributed to this trend. With NOC being a significant source of revenue for the government, it is expected that the Nepalese government will continue to support and promote foreign education for its students.
