Tribhuvan University Launches Initiative to Educate Students on Good Governance and Corruption Prevention

Tribhuvan University, Nepal's oldest and largest university, has taken an important step towards educating students on good governance and corruption prevention. The initiative is aimed at strengthening the campaign in favor of good governance and against corruption, starting from the primary level.

The program was organized by TU's Good Governance and Corruption Prevention Study Center, where professors and senior economists emphasized the importance of teaching about good governance from the grassroots level in Nepal, just like in other developed and developing countries around the world.

The professors and senior economists welcomed the students of the first academic session of the post-graduate level of the center and highlighted the significance of political, social, and economic reforms, along with good governance, for sustainable economic development.

Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Sociology, Prof. Dr. Kushum Shakya, stated that the importance of good governance is increasing globally, and TU has started teaching this subject to contribute to overall development and social transformation.

Head of TU's Good Governance and Anti-Corruption Study Center and Associate Professor of the Central Economics Department, Dr. Ramesh Paudel, stressed that good people and educational institutions must contribute to establishing good governance and developing anti-corruption awareness. He proposed extending this study to primary education, saying that it's necessary to continue such programs to prevent the deterioration of good governance in the country.

Assistant Dean Prof. Dr. Tara Prasad Bhusal also stated that students will be prepared as experts in this field in the future.

Teacher of the center and the general secretary of Nepal Economic Association, Dr. Gopal Prasad Tiwari, said that teaching good governance and corruption prevention will increase accountability in individuals and society and help improve governance effectiveness in developing countries like Nepal.

Overall, this initiative by Tribhuvan University is a step in the right direction to address the issue of corruption and promote good governance in Nepal. It is crucial to educate students from the primary level to create a future generation of experts who can contribute to building a corruption-free society.
