Tribhuvan University will now allow final-year bachelor's students who have failed their exams to take make-up exams. Previously, students had to wait an entire year to retake the exam if they failed in just one subject. This new policy aims to provide relief to students by eliminating this waiting period.
Academic Council’s Decision
The Academic Council has already made a decision regarding this matter. The opportunity for make-up exams will only be given to students who have failed in one or two subjects. These exams will be conducted within two weeks after the final year exam results are published.
Results and Further Studies
The results of these make-up exams will be published in time for students to participate in new admissions for postgraduate studies. Currently, students who fail in one subject in the final year of the four-year bachelor's program have to wait a year to retake the exam. This delay prevents them from pursuing higher education and applying for jobs or further studies abroad.
Impact and Expectations
It is estimated that this new policy will allow 20,000 students annually to take the make-up exams. The university expects that this will increase students' trust in the institution.
Semester System
Currently, make-up exams are conducted in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs that follow the semester system. However, this provision was not available for the annual system, where the majority of students are enrolled.
Problems in Other Years
Students in other years of the bachelor's program at Tribhuvan University also face issues with not receiving their results on time if they fail in one or two subjects. For instance, students preparing for the third-year exams have not yet been able to retake the exams for subjects they failed in the first year. This issue is consistent across other academic years as well.
