Tribhuvan University Initiates Preparations for Free Student Union (FSU) Elections
Tribhuvan University has started preparations for the upcoming Free Student Union (FSU) elections, scheduled for the 15th of Falgun, 2081.
Director Pashupati Adhikari of the Directorate of Student Welfare and Sports stated that the process of conducting the FSU elections has commenced. He mentioned that discussions were held to conduct the FSU elections on the specified date by convening a meeting of the Student Welfare Council.
Tribhuvan University has already set the date for the FSU elections in its academic calendar. Director Adhikari mentioned that discussions will be held soon with student organizations to move forward with the election process. ANNFSU President Samik Badal stated that their organization is preparing for the FSU elections.
He also informed that a committee has been formed under the coordination of Vice President Govinda Giri to prepare the FSU manifesto. President Badal mentioned that the organization has called a district president meeting on the 25th and 26th of Poush and a central committee meeting from the 6th to the 8th of Magh to prepare for the FSU elections.
Similarly, the spokesperson of the Nepal Student Union, Suraj Sejuwal, informed that representatives have been assigned to all campuses where elections will be held. He mentioned that organizational expansion and FSU election-focused programs have been initiated in all campuses. President Pancha Singh of ANNFSU (Revolutionary) stated that the campus committees have been instructed to prepare for the FSU elections.
"We are currently in the midst of the general convention, so we haven't been able to prepare adequately. Right after the general convention, the sole demand of the new leadership will be the FSU elections," he said. "The FSU elections will be held on time, and we are preparing for it." The FSU elections, which are supposed to be held every two years, have not been regular since 2065.
The FSU election held on the 6th of Chaitra 2065 was conducted again after eight years on the 15th of Chaitra 2073. After that, the elections were held nationwide except for a few campuses on the 5th of Chaitra 2079. At that time, elections could not be held in nine constituent campuses. The FSU elections will be held in 62 constituent campuses and 1,040 affiliated campuses of Tribhuvan University across the country. The elections have a provision of an age limit of 28 years and a mixed electoral system.
