Tilottama Municipality's Innovative Approach to Education: Creative Textbook Free Fridays

In a progressive move towards holistic education, the Tilottama Municipality in Rupandehi has introduced the 'Creative Textbook Free Friday' program in all community and institutional schools. This initiative, conducted every Friday, allows students to leave their textbooks at home and engage in a variety of creative and practical educational activities.

A New Dimension to Learning

The 'Textbook Free Friday' program is designed to provide students with a well-rounded education that extends beyond traditional academic subjects. The municipality has prioritized art, yoga, literature, music, and sports, along with practical education related to honesty, discipline, and morality. This innovative approach aims to foster creativity, critical thinking, and moral values among students, preparing them for a rapidly evolving world.

Policy and Implementation

The 'Creative Textbook Free Friday' program was included in the annual policy and program for the fiscal year 2080/81, approved by the municipality. It emphasizes the importance of non-academic education and is now a regular feature in all community and institutional schools within the city.

Promoting a Healthy Environment

In addition to educational reforms, the municipality is also committed to creating a healthy environment for its residents. It has banned the sale, distribution, and consumption of tobacco products in public places and around schools. The city chief, Ramakrishna Khan, has issued a stern warning against the sale and distribution of tobacco products around public places, ensuring the well-being of the community.

Regulations in Place

The ban on tobacco products aligns with the provisions of the Tobacco Control and Regulation Act, 2068. According to this act, no one can sell tobacco products within at least 100 meters from a public place designated by the government. This includes educational institutions, health institutions, child welfare homes, infant care centers, old age homes, orphanages, hospices, and places of worship.

The Tilottama Municipality's innovative approach to education and commitment to public health is a testament to its dedication to creating a nurturing and healthy environment for its residents. It serves as an inspiring example for other municipalities and communities around the world.
