The British College Makes History in the Positive Impact Rating League

Kathmandu, 27th June, 2024

The British College is proud to announce a historic milestone: becoming the first college in Nepal to be listed in the Positive Impact Rating (PIR) 2024, achieving Level 3: Progressing School. This prestigious accomplishment reflects the college's dedication to sustainability, social responsibility, and responsible leadership in business education.

Understanding the Positive Impact Rating (PIR) and its Purpose

The Positive Impact Rating is a globally recognized assessment that evaluates business schools based on their societal impact. Unlike traditional rankings, PIR emphasises sustainability, ethics, and social responsibility, focusing on how effectively institutions address societal challenges. What sets PIR apart is its student-led approach, relying on authentic student experiences and perceptions to gauge the true impact of educational institutions.

Traditional rankings often serve as marketing tools for business schools, positioning them nationally and internationally. However, over time, these rankings can become detached from what they actually measure. The PIR offers a relevant and timely alternative, focusing on the positive impact of schools as seen through the eyes of their students. It also serves as a tool for continuous improvement, empowering student organisations and school management to use their data productively and share best practices.

Significance of Level 3: Progressing School

Achieving Level 3: Progressing School in the PIR 2024 is a testament to college’s commitment to societal betterment and a sustainable future. This recognition places TBC among an elite group of international institutions dedicated to making a substantial and positive difference in the world. It highlights college’s commitment to fostering an environment where the students excel academically and grow as conscientious leaders poised to drive meaningful change.

TBCs Journey to This Achievement

The inclusion of The British College in the Positive Impact Rating 2024 is a testament to the dedicated efforts of the TBC Sustainability Unit. PIR is an initiative of impact assessment under the TBC Sustainability Unit, responsible for creating a holistic environment for sustainability through education, research, and partnerships. The college aims to be part of business education for the world, not of the world, making this recognition crucial at this early stage.

The British College has implemented numerous initiatives to integrate Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its curriculum, foster innovation, and advance climate education. Among these are the "BBA: Innovate for Impact" program, which integrates sustainability into the BBA curriculum, and the UWE Climate Education initiative, which offers free climate education to students. The college has also added a chapter on UNSDGs to the pre-masters module in its MBA program and provided insights into sustainable supply chains through the summer course "Sustainable Supply Chains for the Future." These efforts collectively highlight the dedication to creating a positive societal impact and fostering a sustainable future.

Senior Faculty and Sustainability Lead at The British College, Ms. Sunita Basnet, remarked, "Participating in measurement and assessment surveys like PIR is crucial for advancing sustainability education at The British College.
