Sunkoshi Rural Municipality to Implement Local Curriculum in all Schools
Sunkoshi Rural Municipality in Sindhupalchok is set to introduce a new local curriculum for all schools in the area from the upcoming academic session. The initiative is aimed at promoting the unique identity and cultural heritage of the municipality while providing students with a holistic education.
Formation of the Curriculum Development Task Force
To develop the local curriculum, a six-member task force was formed under the leadership of Bishnu Prasad Neupane, Principal of Badhbhairav Secondary School. The task force included stakeholders and experts from various fields who worked together for two months to create a comprehensive course called 'Our Sunkoshi'.
Implementation of the Curriculum
The new curriculum will be implemented from grades 1 to 8 in all community and private schools operating in the rural municipality. This will benefit the 33 schools in the area, including one private school.
Contents of the Curriculum
The curriculum, which has nine different themes, covers various aspects of the municipality's culture and heritage, including its natural and man-made attractions, domestic industry, livestock, fish farming, and professions. It also includes classroom learning achievements, subject area working hours, content elaboration, learning facilitation processes, teaching methods, and student evaluation.
Overall, the implementation of the new local curriculum in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality is a significant step towards providing students with a well-rounded education that is tailored to the local context. The new curriculum will not only help students understand and appreciate their unique identity but will also equip them with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the modern world.
