Student Community Demands the Inclusion of Nutritionists in Corona Treatment

Student Community Demands the Inclusion of Nutritionists in Corona Treatment:

The Nepal Student's Association of Nutrition & Dietetics (N-SAND) has demanded the inclusion of nutritionists in the treatment of corona, saying that victory over corona can be achieved only by increasing the immune system through a healthy balanced diet and proper nutrition.

The organization said in a press release on Thursday that no vaccine has been developed for corona treatment so far and that nutrients will play a key role in fighting the disease. "The risk of coronary heart disease is exacerbated by the lack of proper nutrition for people at high risk of coronary heart disease," said the statement. "Nutritionists need to be mobilized immediately rather than treating patients with a quick diet plan."

The organization has emphasized that the problem of malnutrition will become worse in the coming days due to the failure of more than 25% of the population living below the poverty line due to the lockdown as well as pregnant women, infants, breastfeeding mothers, children and adolescents.

Despite the provision of nutritionists and dieticians from the fifth to the tenth level in the Health Regulations, 2055 BS, more than 300 skilled manpower have been left unemployed due to non-implementation from the center to the states. There is also a provision to have one dietitian in every 50-bed hospital.

The organization has demanded immediate task force for corona treatment, corona tracing team, and provision of nutritionists in the hospital where the treatment is being carried out and immediate implementation of the existing policy by bringing the appropriate policy to control the challenge of malnutrition.

The subject of nutrition and diet has been continuously taught at the Central Technology Campus Dharan under Tribhuvan University since 2067/68 as per the direction of the Government of Nepal and the study report of the National Planning Commission.
