St. Xavier's School in Lalitpur Jawalakhel increases quota for the general public in class 1 admission
St. Xavier's School in Lalitpur Jawalakhel, which had postponed its admission process for class 1 in 2079 Chaitra 9, has recently announced that it will resume the admission process by increasing the quota for the general public. This comes after an agreement was made between Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality and the school on 5th Baisakh, 2080.
Increased Quota for General Public
The head of Metropolitan Education Department, Mahendra Chhetri, stated that the admission process for class 1 will now have a 63 percent quota for the general public, which has been increased from the previous 40 percent quota. Out of 170 seats available in class 1, 107 seats will now be accessible to common people, which is a positive aspect. Additionally, a 12 percent quota has been set aside for the children of teachers and staff working in the school.
Special Quotas
According to the agreement between the school and the metropolis, 5 percent of the seats will be allotted to the children of the Dalit community, marginalized and poor, single women, while 10 percent will be allocated to the children of the physically challenged, and 10 percent to the children of the minority community.
Admission Process and Lottery
Father Amrit Rai, chairman of the school management committee, announced that the admission process will begin on April 24, and on April 26, students will be selected for admission through the lottery process. Classes will commence on May 2. It is worth noting that this year, the quota for siblings of current students studying in schools has been removed, which may cause mental stress to parents.
Positive Aspect
Father Amrit Rai has expressed his positive outlook towards the increased open quota, stating that it will provide more opportunities for common people to enrol in the prestigious school. However, it is worth mentioning that the quota for children of former students, permanent residents of Ward No. 4 of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, and permanent residents within the area of Lalitpur Metropolitan City has been removed starting this year.
