St. Xavier's School Jawalakhel halts Class 1 Admission Process
St. Xavier's School Jawalakhel, located in Lalitpur Metropolitan City, has halted the admission process for Class 1 students, causing uncertainty for about 4000 students. The school administration had started the admission process based on shortlisting and interaction after the Ministry of Education instructed schools not to conduct entrance exams.
The Metropolitan City issued an instruction to the school to postpone the admission process on March 20, 2023, due to inconsistencies in the student enrollment quota provided by the school. This decision has left parents and children in a state of mental distress, awaiting further updates regarding the admission process.
St. Xavier's School has been a popular choice for parents across the country for over 70 years, thanks to its provision of quality education at affordable fees. In the past, the school management faced a lot of pressure from political parties and influential individuals during the admission process for Class 1. To address these issues, the school adopted a lottery system for admissions, which has been in place for the last two years.
However, the Metropolitan City's decision to halt the admission process has caused further stress for students and parents. According to the school management, they had already determined the quota and opened the admissions based on the decision of the school management committee. The quota provides for various groups such as the Dalit community, marginalized and economically disadvantaged single women, physically disabled and disabled parents, minority communities, siblings of students studying in the school, children of former students, permanent residents of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, and open and general admissions.
The Metropolitan Education Department Head, Mahendra Chhetri, stated that the metropolis had only taken the initiative to manage the admission quota after St. Xavier's became a popular choice for parents and students. The department head also mentioned that the City was trying to maintain uniformity in the quota provided by the school, without causing hardship to the students or parents.
Chhetri also clarified that there were complaints of targeting ordinary students in the current enrollment quota, leading to the decision to maintain uniformity. The Education Department Head has already had two discussions with the school, and the issue is expected to be resolved soon, with admissions reopening.
Overall, the Metropolitan City's decision to halt the admission process for Class 1 students at St. Xavier's School Jawalakhel has caused distress for many students and parents. However, efforts are underway to resolve the issue, and the school is expected to announce updates soon.

- Ensuring fairness: To prevent immoral activities, the school reduced the fee and started admitting students through a lottery system after shortlisting candidates who filled out the form. However, the Metropolitan Municipality's decision to halt the admission process caused uncertainty and stress for parents and students.
