Somnath Giri Elected as Central President of Nepal Teachers' Association
The Nepal Teachers' Association, which is affiliated with the Nepali Congress, has elected Somnath Giri as its new central president. Giri won the election by defeating Gokarna Bahadur Baniyan, another candidate for the position, by a margin of seven votes.
Results of the Election
The counting of votes was completed recently, and Giri received 350 votes, while Baniyan got 298 votes, according to Chief Electoral Officer Deepaklal Khatiwada. Other individuals were elected to various leadership positions in the association as well, including Ilam Bahadur Shahi as Senior Vice President, Dhana Bhandari as Women Vice President, and Birendra Kumar Khadka as Koshi Province Vice President.

Chhotelal Prasad Sah was elected as Madhesh Province Vice President, Sundar Pant as Bagmati Province Vice President, Lakshmi Prasad Regmi as Gandaki Province Vice President, Prem Prasad Bhandari as Lumbini Vice President, Bhagwati Shrestha as Karnali Vice President, and Khadk Bahadur Khadka as Far West Vice President. Gyanendra Bahadur Rawal was elected as General Secretary, Nirmala Koirala as General Secretary Arth, Narayan Prasad Timalsina as Deputy Secretary General, Geeta Sivakoti as Deputy Secretary General Women, Prem Prasad Paudel as Deputy Secretary General Arth, Tirtharaj Prasad Yadav as Deputy General Secretary Madhesh, Sita Devi Thapa as Deputy Secretary General, and Kali Bahadur Shahi as Deputy Secretary General Karnali.
Participation in the Congress Convention
Chief Electoral Officer Khatiwada announced that representatives from the Nepal Teachers' Association have been selected to participate in the upcoming Nepali Congress convention. Outgoing President Rajendraraj Paudel, Laxmikishore Subedi, Laxman Dutt Bhatt, Yampi Bhusal, Padmini Thapa, and Sita Gaihre were elected as congress delegates from the teachers' union in the recent election.
Somnath Giri's election as the new central president of the Nepal Teachers' Association, along with the election of other leaders to various positions, is expected to bring new leadership and direction to the association, which has close ties with the Nepali Congress.
