Sita Maya Chepang, First woman from Chepang Community to get Master Degree:
Sita Maya Chepang of Rapti Municipality-13 has become the first woman to get a Master's degree certificate from the Chepang community. Sita Maya, who lives in Waswang in the upper part of the hill town of Rapti, said she had recently passed her master's degree in sociology.
She has a degree from Patan Campus. She studied in the village school till class 3 and then went to Khagendra Navjivan School in Jorpati. She graduated from Crimson College in Plus Two and from Koteshwar Campus; and Padhna Ka Lagi Sikau, an NGO.
She said that a woman from Belgium was involved in this educational achievement in her life. She said that after the death of Sitamaya while she was studying in class 7, her husband helped her to study till graduation. While studying for a degree in sociology, she said that she had covered the expenses herself. "I have studied while working," she said.
Chepang leader Govindaram Chepang said that he was very happy to see Sita as the first female graduate of the Chepang community. Govindaram, who is also a member of the Constituent Assembly, said, "There are many men from the Chepang community who have received a various technical and formal education, but women have not been successful."
Stating that the Chepang caste is in a very backward position and even within that caste, women are facing more problems in terms of gender, Sita said that she would work for the empowerment of the women of the Chepang community. She said that she wanted to share her educational achievements with everyone. Sita says that there is no problem in achieving success if there are hard work and opportunity.
