Siddheshwar Secondary School Hukkedanda Baitadi Successful Fundraising Efforts During Fagu Festival
Siddheshwar Secondary School Hukkedanda, located in Patan municipality-9, Baitadi, has recently been declared a three-star school by the government. The school offers education up to class 10 and has 270 students. The school management committee has done an excellent job of creating an attractive educational and physical environment for the students, which includes a children's garden, playground, and clean surroundings.
Fagu Festival: The Main Source of Funds
The school has managed to become what it is today due to festivals like Fagu rather than government planning. According to Prem Bhat, the president of the school management committee, the teachers of the school are paid only after the arrival of Fagu. The teacher's salary facility is paid by playing Fagu and collecting support. This year, the school collected one lakh 75 thousand rupees by playing Fagu for four days.
Private Resources for Additional Teachers
There are three government-ranked teachers in Pravi, and by collecting private resources, the school can pay nine teachers with the money collected in Fagu. This approach has helped the school cope with the financial burden it faces, as the teachers have to pay 28,000 monthly salary, but the municipality only provides subsidies of 16,000 and 17,000 rupees for secondary and primary school teachers, respectively.
Other Sources of Income for the School
The school has been doing candle industry, mushroom cultivation, making artistic garlands, and raising more resources by growing vegetables in the vacant land within the school premises. From that amount, additional classes have been conducted for the students taking the SEE exam. With the useful skills learned in school, students also earn income from candles. The school has been innovative in generating additional sources of income to improve its facilities and educational quality.
Other Schools Collect Funds Through Fagu Festival
Apart from Siddheshwar Secondary School, other schools have also collected funds by playing Fagu. Sigas Secondary School Gauri Shankar Pool in Patan Municipality-3, Guruda has collected four lakh rupees, and Saraswati Secondary School Sallewasa, located in Patan municipality-10, has collected one lakh 46 thousand rupees. Panchadev Basic School located in Dabrali, Surnaya Rural Municipality-4 of Baitadi has collected 180 thousand rupees by playing Fagu.
Festivals like Fagu have helped schools in rural areas collect funds to meet their financial requirements. The innovative approach of Siddheshwar Secondary School and other schools in generating additional sources of income is praiseworthy. These schools are setting an example of how a little creativity can go a long way in providing quality education in remote areas.
