Secondary Education Examination (SEE) Results 2080 Overview
The Secondary Education Examination (SEE) results are now out, with the National Examination Board announcing a pass rate of 47.86%.
Significant Change in SEE Results Format
For the first time since 2071 BS, the results include a pass/fail status. Previously, with the letter grading system, results were only shown in grades without specifying pass or fail. This allowed students with lower grades to move to higher classes.
Reverting to Old Practices
With the 'Letter Grading Directive 2078', this year’s SEE results have returned to the earlier practice of showing pass/fail status, similar to the system before 2071 BS. In 2071 BS, the pass rate was 47.43%, but from 2072 BS onwards, results were based on letter grades, allowing students to enroll in class 11 according to their grades.
Implications of the New Grading System
This year, students scoring below 35% in both theory and practical exams will receive an 'NG' (Non-Graded) on their certificates. These students cannot enroll in class 11. However, students with NG in up to two subjects can take a grade improvement exam within a month. Those with NG in more than two subjects must retake the entire SEE exam next year.
Grade Improvement Opportunities
According to the board’s statistics, 115,834 students are eligible for the grade improvement exam. In the 2080 BS results, 242,314 students received an 'NG'. Students with NG in two subjects can sit for make-up exams on Shrawan 18 and 19, while others will have to wait until next year’s exams.
Comparison with Previous Years
- 2079 BS: Out of 484,939 students, 13,992 received 'NG' (2.89%). There were fewer low GPA students and more high GPA achievers.
- 2078 BS: 22,537 students received 'NG' (4.55%). Students scoring 3.60 to 4 GPA were 9,633 (1.94%).
- 2077 BS: Due to COVID-19, results were based on internal assessments by schools. The National Examination Board certified the results of 484,278 students.
- 2076 BS: 462,136 students took the SEE, and 16,882 scored 3.6 to 4 GPA.
- 2075 BS: Out of 449,642 students, 8,207 received an E grade.
- 2072 BS: The board began publishing results without failing any students. In the 2072 BS SEE, 588,152 students participated, with 16,454 scoring 3.6 to 4 GPA.
- 2071 BS: Out of 405,338 students, 192,267 passed (47.43%), and 213,071 failed (52.57%).
Highest Achievers in 2080 BS SEE
- Top GPA: 31,000 students achieved the highest GPA.
- 3.60 to 4 GPA: 22,475 students (4.63% of total examinees).
Conclusion
This year’s SEE results mark a significant shift back to the traditional pass/fail system. The introduction of the 'Letter Grading Directive 2078' has reinstated the importance of passing grades for progression to higher education. Students and educators need to adjust to these changes to ensure academic success and proper preparation for future examinations.
