Resunga Municipality of Gulmi to Offer Free Admission to First-Year Bachelor’s Students
Resunga Municipality in Gulmi has announced that it will provide free admission to students enrolling in the first year of bachelor’s degree studies. Mayor Khiladhwaj Panthi informed that the municipality will cover the admission costs for students studying at Resunga Multiple Campus within the district.
Speaking at a press conference held on Sunday after a municipal executive meeting, with the participation of local industrialists and businesspersons, Mayor Panthi stated that the decision to offer free admission to first-year bachelor’s students at Resunga Multiple Campus was made to increase student enrollment at the campus.
He explained that the initiative was driven by the belief that progress in education and health is essential for the development of the district. Noting that student numbers at the campus had recently declined for various reasons, Mayor Panthi said the municipality decided to provide free admission to address this issue.
Mayor Panthi also reminded that upon his election to the municipality, he had pledged to support Resunga Multiple Campus with a grant of NPR 10 million. Of this amount, NPR 5 million has already been handed over to the campus, and the remaining NPR 5 million will be provided soon.
This time, the municipality aims to offer free admission to around 300 students in the first year of bachelor’s studies. Mayor Panthi emphasized that increasing student enrollment would resolve many of the campus's issues, and the goal is to ensure that no student is deprived of higher education due to financial constraints.
On the occasion, Campus Chief Hari Bahadur Khatri expressed that the number of students had been gradually declining, but the municipality's support had brought new hope. He mentioned that community campuses face operational challenges, particularly in hilly areas, due to the lack of state-level support.
