National poet (Rastra Kavi) Madhav Prasad Ghimire has passed away. According to his son Rajiv Ghimire, the Rastra Kavi died at 5:55 pm on Tuesday, 18 August 2020.

He died at the age of 101. Ghimire was born in the village of Pustun in Lamjung on 7th Ashoj 1976. His works include Nav Manjari, Gauri (mourning poem), Malati Mangale, (Geetinatak), Himalpari Himalwari (Geetinatak), Rajeshwari, Indrakumari, Rashtranirmata, Kinnar-Kinnari (song collection), Charu Charcha (essay), Afno Bansuri Afnai Geet (essay). Ghimire received the Common Award for his work 'Himalapari Himalwari' in 2054 BS, 'Charu Charcha' in 2058 BS, and the Padma Shri Sadhana Samman Award in 2067 BS.

He composed the national anthem 'Gaunch Geet Nepali' as well as songs sung by Tara Devi in ​​the movie 'Manko Bandh', 'Phoolko Thunga Bager Gayo' and Narayangopal's song 'Aajai Ra Rati Ke Dekhein Sapna'.

Ghimire, who writes in the style of Romanticism in Nepali literature, was awarded the title of National Poet by the government on September 26, 2008.

Ghimire was awarded the title of National Poet (Rastra Kavi) at the age of 85. "People who used to have fun eating milk and rice in the mountains, ran away to study with seven seals.
