Public Service Commission (PSC) to open new recruitment of Joint Secretary and Under Secretary:

There are indications that a new recruitment process will begin for the vacant Joint Secretaries and Under Secretaries in various government bodies despite the growing contagion of COVID-19.

The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration has written a letter on Thursday to send the number of vacant joint secretaries and deputy secretaries to various ministries, bodies, commissions, and secretariats of the federal government. The ministry has written to the agencies to send the details of all the vacancies within the next 10 days.

As the ministry has demanded the details of the vacancies for the recruitment process, it is seen that the examination for the Joint Secretary and Under Secretary can be held as per the annual calendar of the Public Service Commission. According to the ministry, there are currently 52 more vacancies in all the agencies, including 52 for non-technical (administration) and 30 for technical services.

There are more than 200 vacancies for Under Secretary in both the service groups. Of these, 130 are vacant in the administrative service and 70 in the non-technical service, according to the ministry. It is seen that there will be examinations for 282 posts including 82 for Joint Secretary and 200 for Under Secretary in both the service groups.

According to the general demand letter, now all the bodies will have to send the number of vacant posts of Joint Secretary and Under Secretary to their bodies. There is a legal provision that the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration will make a recommendation to the Public Service for filling the vacancy on the basis of the number of posts sent. The Public Service Commission will conduct examinations from Joint Secretary to Kharidar according to its annual examination calendar.

The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration will first make a recommendation to fill the vacancies of Joint Secretary and Deputy Secretary as per the annual work schedule of the Public Service Commission. Based on the vacancies sent by the Ministry, the Public Service Commission will start the process of selection of Deputy Secretary and Joint Secretary.

According to the Ministry, the Public Service Commission will advertise for the post of Joint Secretary and Deputy Secretary in the coming September if there is a recommendation to fill the vacancy in the Public Service Commission on the same basis. According to the advertisement, the commission will conduct the examination for the Joint Secretary in November and for the Under Secretary in December.

There are about 1,500 vacancies at the official level in various bodies of the federal government. The number of vacancies has increased last year as the commission failed to conduct all the examinations for the post. The ministry has said that it will demand the vacant post of the officer after the number of joint secretaries and deputy secretaries and will proceed with the process of filling the posts of officers accordingly.
