Province-Level Universities and Educational Institutions Demand Inclusion in Grant Commission

A joint meeting of Province-level universities and educational institutions held in the capital of Bagmati Province demanded inclusion in the University Grants Commission.

Demand for Inclusion in the Grants Commission:

On February 26, 2023, a joint meeting of Province-level universities and educational institutions was held in Hetounda, Bagmati Province. The participants demanded inclusion in the University Grants Commission as they are facing budget constraints despite being established. They feel neglected in the Grants Commission's policies.

Problems Faced by the Institutions:

According to Dr. Subhashree Pokharel, Vice-Chancellor of Manmohan Technical University, universities and educational institutions established at the provincial level face numerous problems due to the lack of inclusion in the Grants Commission. The meeting issued a four-point manifesto to solve the problem.

Requests Made by the Gathering:

The gathering requested the Province and federal government to provide grants for conducting technical and vocational education, research, and infrastructure development programs. They also requested the budget according to the fees set by the Medical Education Commission to provide scholarships.

Participants of the Meeting:

The meeting was attended by prominent figures such as Dr. Pokharel, Vice Chancellor of Manmohan Technical University of Province 1, Prof. Dr. Navraj Devekota, Vice Chancellor of Gandaki University, Prof. Dr. Vishwaraj Joshi, Vice Chancellor of Madan Bhandari Institute of Health Sciences, Bagmati Province, and Registrar of Madhes Institute of Health Sciences, Dr. Vinod Kumar Yadav.

Future Plan of Action:

The meeting participants decided to interact with the Grants Commission and the federal government jointly, submit additional memorandums, and create a joint network at the provincial level for upgrading universities and educational institutions in the province.

Overall, the joint meeting of Province-level universities and educational institutions has urged the Province and federal government to take necessary steps to address the problems faced by the institutions established at the provincial level.
