President Ram Chandra Poudel Address the 49th Convocation Ceremony of Tribhuvan University

Kathmandu, December 18, 2023 – President Ramchandra Paudel, addressing the 49th convocation ceremony of Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, emphasized the significance of Nepal's current governance system for maintaining the unity of its diverse society. He reflected on the system's establishment, which emerged from the people's immense suffering and sacrifice, and its role in fostering unity and equality within the Nepalese society.

President Paudel underlined the pivotal role of Tribhuvan University graduates in shaping the fate and future of the nation. He expressed his conviction that the educated youth should not only remember their responsibilities towards the nation and its people but also actively participate in nation-building efforts. He highlighted the critical role of educated youth in creating a competent, strong, and prosperous nation.

Exploring further into the importance of democracy in Nepal, President Paudel remarked, "After the suffering and sacrifice of the people, a democratic system has been established in our country where the people are sovereign. This system, characterized by its inclusivity and the current constitution, is instrumental in implementing social unity and equality in Nepalese society." He emphasized the necessity of understanding the system's role in unifying Nepal's geographically, culturally, and ethnically diverse society.

Recognizing the inseparable link between education and societal development, President Paudel noted the Nepalese government's substantial investment in the education sector. He acknowledged the hard work of the students and their crucial role in the country's future.

On state investment in education, President Paudel stated, "State investment means people's investment." He urged the graduates to recognize their duties and responsibilities towards the nation and its people, expressing hope and confidence in their ability to fulfill these roles. He also stressed the importance of their acquired knowledge, skills, and technology in nation-building.

Addressing environmental concerns, President Paudel expressed alarm over the impact of climate change on Nepal's mountains, including Mount Everest, which faces the threat of turning into black mountains. He called upon the educated youth to take a leading role in reducing carbon emissions and combating these environmental challenges, highlighting their crucial role in safeguarding Nepal's natural heritage.
