President Dissolves Parliament, Announces Mid-term Election in November:
President Bidya Devi Bhandari has dissolved the current House of Representatives in accordance with Article 76, Sub-Article 970 of the Constitution of Nepal. On the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, the President dissolved the House of Representatives on Saturday morning and set the date for the first phase of the next election to be held on Friday, November 12, 2021 (2078 Kartik 26), and the second phase on November 19, 2021 (2078 Manshir 3).
The House of Representatives, which has a five-year term, has dissolved for the second time in six months. Earlier, the House of Representatives was dissolved on 20 December 2020. But the Supreme Court reinstated the dissolution as unconstitutional. The court had restored the dissolution saying that the conditions envisaged by Article 76 of the Constitution had not been fulfilled. The court had decided to reinstate on 23 February 2021.
