Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has urged everyone to contribute to the success of the student enrollment campaign for the academic session 2082. On Monday, he extended his best wishes for the campaign, which begins today. He stated that parents and related stakeholders have a significant role in ensuring its success.
Prime Minister Oli emphasized that, by 2030, school education must be inclusive and of quality from general technical to higher learning to meet the global goals of sustainable development. All educational institutions should be developed as centers of excellence, and education should become a means to fulfill the national aspiration of “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali.” He called upon all individuals in the education sector to focus on producing quality and employment-oriented educational manpower, as education is one of the foundations of prosperity.
Prime Minister Oli mentioned that about 20 percent of Nepal's population still lives below the absolute poverty line. “Without reducing poverty, we cannot achieve national goals. The first condition to eliminating poverty is education,” he said in his message. We can no longer afford to keep our children out of school.”
Prime Minister Oli stated that although the net enrollment rate at the basic level has improved, more effort is needed to improve the student retention rate. He emphasized that to improve student retention, education must be modernized by connecting it with local knowledge, skills, and technology, and employment and self-employment opportunities must be created within the country.
Prime Minister Oli said that the government is committed to increasing the share of the education budget, achieving the targets of sustainable development, and passing the School Education Bill 2081 through discussion. “At present, to meet the goals of compulsory and free basic education and free secondary education, investment partnerships must be increased through mutual coordination, cooperation, and coexistence among the three levels of government,” he said.
According to Prime Minister Oli, it is necessary to build citizens and a society with ethical conduct and employment skills through quality education by making practical and creative use of educational investments and resources. “It is now necessary to apply the knowledge we have into practice. Knowledge must be applied practically for the welfare of society as a whole. Being educated is not enough; we must also be humble,” he said.
Prime Minister Oli said that today’s education must make people feel a sense of responsibility toward themselves, their families, the nation, and the international community, and our efforts must be focused on this goal.
In his message, Prime Minister Oli mentioned that in a fertile country like Nepal, it is unacceptable for people or children to still live in poor streets. He stated that the government is advancing campaign-based efforts to end the condition where children must live without guardians. He expressed hope that the student enrollment campaign would also support this effort.
