Prime Minister Prachanda has highlighted the challenge of preventing the increasing migration of academic manpower abroad and creating an environment that utilizes the skills of students and generates jobs in the country. In his address at the 18th convocation ceremony of Pokhara University, he urged graduating students to be brave, honest, and enhance the country's pride and prestige.
He also stressed the role of the education sector in achieving social justice, good governance, and prosperity in Nepal. The Federal Education Act has been finalized to implement the constitutional provision of free education. Prada Uma Bharadwaj, the chief guest at the convocation, emphasized the importance of education in making human life strong and active and creating ethical, disciplined, and creative students.
Prof. Dr. Prem Narayan Aryal, Vice-Chancellor of Pokhara University, provided information on the university's programs, stating that 66 colleges conduct studies in various technical and general subjects, with 64 programs available for students. The university has a student population of 37,645, and 6,999 students were initiated on convocation day.
Several students received awards and recognition for their academic achievements, including Samjhana Tiwari, who received the Lakshmi Swarna Vidya Medal for obtaining the best marks in the management faculty at the post-graduate level, and Anish Limbu, who received the Osim Gold Medal.
To stop the migration of academic manpower abroad, Nepal needs to provide opportunities for students to utilize their skills and knowledge, create jobs, and foster a positive learning environment. The government, academic institutions, and students need to work collaboratively towards this goal. Additionally, Nepal's education sector plays a critical role in achieving social justice, good governance, and prosperity.
