The Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), Sher Bahadur Deuba, has pointed out the need for concerted and coordinated efforts by all for new research, study, research, and invention in the field of science and technology.
Speaking at the 45th Academic Assembly of NAST, he said that emphasis should be laid on accelerating the pace of economic development by mobilizing the educated manpower mainly in the field of science and technology in the country, preventing brain drain and linking science and technology with modernization and production system of the nation.
In this context, Prime Minister Deuba directed the concerned ministries and NAST officials to make a concrete action plan for the full utilization of the expertise and professional development of the scientists and experts affiliated with NAST, including scientists and researchers from across the country.
NAST has been playing an important role in discovering, researching, and developing new technologies to support the development of the country, and in coordinating and facilitating the introduction of socially useful new technologies invented and used in other countries.
He said, “I would like to congratulate all the scientists and technicians involved in this work for the successful efforts of NAST to launch Nepal's Satellite into space only a short time ago. I would like to thank the Government of Nepal for its role in providing isolation booths to all the security agencies, various health organizations and local bodies, helping the innovators to develop the necessary equipment and technology to control the Covid-19 epidemic that has plagued the world for the past two years. ”
He said that he would like to highly appreciate the efforts made by NAST to produce oxygen cylinders in Nepal and to test the used cylinders.
Prime Minister Deuba urged all young scientists and expert technicians to be more diligent and aware in order to improve the quality of life and engage in new discoveries and research that would be useful for the development and prosperity of the country.
"NAST has also run programs for training science teachers, setting up information access centers, rewarding veteran scientists and technicians, and assisting research institutes. I feel that such programs need to be further expanded in the coming days, "said Prime Minister Deuba.
He hoped that the NAST would conduct a detailed review of the work done in the last fiscal year and guide the new work as soon as possible within the current fiscal year with new thinking and strategy.
Prime Minister Deuba expressed confidence that the meeting would be helpful to take necessary steps to address the problems and challenges of NAST in the coming days by having constructive discussions on the challenges and problems faced by the NAST.
