PATA Nepal Chapter Organized PATA Youth Tourism Professional Chef Competition

The Nepal Chapter of Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) in collaboration with Global College International has organized "PATA Youth Tourism Professional Chef Competition" on 18 December 2021 at College International under the theme "Exploring the Authentic Delicacies of Nepal".

PATA Youth Tourism Professional Chef Competition is an event organized under the 4th edition of PATA Youth Talent Quest. Organized annually, the Youth Talent Quest PATA Nepal Student Chapter and the member educational institutions affiliated to the PATA Nepal Chapter showcase the knowledge, skills and abilities of the students studying in the field of hospitality and tourism through competition. It has become an inspiring platform to identify and provide the necessary training, advice and opportunities to enhance and empower their knowledge, skills and abilities as well as motivate them for successful future development in the tourism sector.

The top 10 students who want to become Nepali chefs in the future participated in the competition, representing five major hotel management member educational institutions affiliated to the PATA Nepal Chapter - Silver Mountain, Gate, GCI, IST and Natham. He presented some delicious and original Nepali dishes from different cultures and regions of Nepal with professional cooking and new creative style.

 

The judging panel of distinguished personalities including Chef Govind Narasimha KC, Chef Jiten Pradhan, Chef Sunsari Nepali and Chef Vikramgiri evaluated the cooking and efficiency of the participating students. The judges said that they were impressed by the enthusiasm, preparation, creative style and innovative ideas displayed by the young students.

Ruby Pudasaini and Sundar Sherpa, both students of Global Academy of Tourism and Hospitality Education (GATE), won the PATA Youth Tourism Professional Chef Competition. Similarly, Pasang Lhamu Sherpa and Sona Shrestha representing Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management-Natham were declared first runners up and Sandesh Kandel and Pema Tamang representing Silver Mountain School of Hotel Management were declared second runners up. The two winning students will be awarded a special mentorship program with Chef Santosh Shah from PATA Nepal Chapter and other attractive prizes.

Welcoming the outgoing President of PATA Nepal Chapter, Mr. Sunil Shakya, said that this initiative of PATA would be a significant contribution to the promotion of Nepal as a great destination for culture and food in addition to mountain and adventure tourism and to build Nepali chefs of the future. He also said that in the current situation, it is necessary to move ahead with the survival and revival campaign of the tourism industry by standardizing the quality of food and services.

Welcoming the guests and participants, Dr. Devraj Paneru, Director, Global College, said that the college has collaborated and partnered with more than 50 organizations for the multidimensional development of students. He said that he would continue to work with PATA for many years to come.

Mr. Suresh Singh Budal, CEO of PATA Nepal, thanked the PATA Nepal Chapter and announced the results of the competition. In the same year, in April 2021, he had completed four major competitions including Public Speaking Speech Competition, Tourism and Hospitality Quiz, PATA Futsal Competition and Content Writing Competition.

He said that the fourth edition of "PATA Youth Talent Quest" has also come to an end with the completion of "Youth Tourism Professional Safe Competition" with the recognition of future Nepali chefs full of passion, vigor and art skills. PATA Nepal Chapter will organize the fifth edition of PATA Youth Talent Quest in March 2022.
