Online Classes

Online Classes Are Not Being Effective:

Online education, an alternative to physical classes, has not been as effective as expected during the Coronavirus crisis. Online classes have not even started in many schools, including the community, while the private sector is also not well attended by students outside the capital.

Most of the students in the community schools have not been able to get in touch yet and the teachers in the government schools have not been able to show enthusiasm in teaching. Private school teachers are teaching even though they have not been paid since Chait.

Not Sufficient Student’s Attendance:

Pragati Secondary School in Lalitpur has been teaching online from class 9 to upper class for only two weeks now. School principal Surya Ghimire informed that about 25 percent of students attend the school. Many students do not have internet facilities, some do not have mobiles, laptops, some students have more than one student at home, so the participation of students in online classes has not increased due to the competition of the online class time. He said that online classes could not be conducted in the lower classes and those students continued their learning through radio and television. It is said that preparations are being made to conduct online classes for the lower level students from class 8 onwards.

Some private schools have been conducting regular online classes since the beginning of the academic session, but this is not the case across the country. Tika Puri, president of the Private and Residential Schools Organization Nepal (PABSON), says, "Online education in private schools in the Valley is satisfactory, but the situation is not good across the country." Outside the valley, only about 25 percent are present. "

The capital's Sanskrit Secondary School has also recently started online classes for class 10 students. From now on, online classes are being prepared for the students of class 8 and 9, said Principal Shiva Adhikari. He says that it will be a few weeks late to start the class by establishing contact with the students and getting the teachers and students accustomed online. It is said that only 25 percent of the students of class 10 participate in the online class.

Students are not in contact

Meanwhile, the school searched for the student but could not establish contact. Stating that they have lost contact with 40 percent of students of the school, Prof. Ghimire said that books have been distributed to the remaining students and the details of the students have also been updated. It is said that about 25 percent of students of Sanskrit Higher Secondary School Ranipokhari have not come in contact yet.

Gunaraj Moktan, general secretary of the Federation of Community School Management Committees, said that the online classes were conducted only by schools in the city and that they were not very effective. He estimated that out of 8 million students studying in the school, hardly 1 million students have not been able to join the online class. He said that the government has not been able to increase the effectiveness of the study through alternative means. There are 2.2 million students in the private sector.

The government has also stated that there is no study or monitoring of the effectiveness of online classes, which have been introduced through alternative methods. But the government claims that an average of 35 percent of students has participated. For this purpose, the Center for Education and Human Resource Development has provided assistance of three or four lakh rupees at all 753 local levels on various grounds, said Director Gehnath Gautam.
