New School Building Inaugurated in Gorkha, Nepal with Japanese Support
A new school building has been constructed in Balua, Ward no. 7 Mandali Basic School, Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality of Gorkha, Nepal. The three-storied building with nine rooms has been constructed with the financial support of the Japanese people and the technical support of the Education Development and Coordination Unit of Gorkha and Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality, along with the community.
The building was inaugurated on 23rd February 2023 by Surendraraj Pandey, the leader of the Nepali Congress Gandaki Province Parliamentary Party and Member of Parliament during a program. He emphasized that the quality of education should be maintained together with the school, parents, and students.
Earthquake Damage
The school building was damaged during the 2072 earthquake. Although the government gave priority to the reconstruction of the buildings destroyed by the earthquake, the building could not be constructed due to lack of land for reconstruction. The headmaster of the school, Toyanath Dhital, expressed his happiness as the school was previously teaching in a temporary roof with a zinc roof, and now a facility-equipped building has been constructed.
Project Details
The building was constructed under the project of improving the learning environment of public schools of Ekikaran Nepal Gorkha, and along with the building, fencing around the school, ground maintenance, water supply, toilets, library, and classroom furniture have also been managed. The foundation stone was laid in April 2022, and the building was handed over to the school on Thursday.

The program was attended by various dignitaries, including Chairman of the School Management Committee John Kumar Baram, Chief Guest of Nepali Congress Gandaki Province Parliamentary Party Leader MP Sarendra Raj Pandey, Head of District Coordination Committee Mohan Bahadur Thapamgar, Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality Chairman Bishnu Bhatt, Vice Chairman Sanmaya Gurung, Education Development and Coordination Unit Gorkha Head Subas. Acharya, Executive Director of Ekikaran Nepal Gorkha Hari Devkota, and Ward President Krishna Gurung.
The new school building will provide a comfortable and equipped learning environment to the 64 children studying in the school from class 1 to 5. The community, along with the Japanese and Nepali government's support, has made this project successful, and it will contribute to the overall development of the region.
