New Guidelines for Grade Increment Exam for Class 12 Students in Nepal
The Nepal government has revised the Letter Grading Guideline for class 12 students, allowing them to take the Grade Increment exam only in the subject in which they have received NG (Non Grade). The decision was taken to prevent dropouts and depression among students who have to repeat the exam in the same subject they have already passed.
The revised guidelines state that students who fail in two or fewer subjects will be allowed to take the exam for three years only in those subjects in which they fail in the same year and above. This will prevent students from dropping out due to the difficulty of repeating the exam in the same class or taking the exam for all subjects when they get NG in more than two subjects.
Chairman of the National Examination Board, Mahashram Sharma, said that the decision was made keeping in mind the convenience of the students, to prevent dropouts after class 12 and to help the overall education system. This arrangement of the guidelines will not affect the educational quality as the board has studied the arrangements of other countries to provide that facility in Nepal as well.
The amended section 7 (e) of the guidelines states that students who could not get the specified grade in the regular and Grade Increment examination can only take the exam in the subject in which they did not get the grade. This will be applicable to the students of last year as well, which will ease the pressure on 58,000 students who got NG in more than two subjects last year.
This decision will bring relief to students and increase their internal competence as they will participate in the exam with the confidence that they will pass after working hard on the subject they have been asked. The National Examination Board has prepared to conduct the class 12th exam from 26th Baisakh 2080.
