New Curriculum Structure in Secondary Level

The curriculum has changed over time. In the meantime, secondary education is to be maintained in grades 9 through 12 under school education. At present, secondary education has been classified into three types: general, technical and vocational and traditional. The traditional education system including Gurukul, Gonpa Vihar, Madarsa, Mundhum has been integrated into secondary education.

The curriculum structure of secondary education is said to be one-way. Each class will have five compulsory subjects including Nepali, English, Mathematics, Science and Technology and Social Studies for the common sense of classes 9 and 10. Two elective subjects are also mentioned. English and Nepali are included in both English and Nepali as a compulsory subject towards the general education of Classes 11 and 12, Social Studies in Class I and Classical Education in Class 12.

Classes 11 and 12 each include three topics of elective subject. In addition, one additional subject may be included as an additional elective subject in classes 11 and 12. Secondary education will include a minimum of one hour of information technology related subjects in social studies and life-long education in classes 11 and 12.
