Nepal ranked 73rd in the World in terms of Famine:
Nepal is ranked 73rd in the world in terms of famine. According to the Global Hunger Index 2019 based on hunger measurement, Nepal is ranked 73rd out of 117 countries in the world.
According to a government report, about 2 million people in Nepal are food insecure. The Kovid-19 epidemic is expected to exacerbate hunger and food insecurity in Nepal. According to the FAO, more than 2 billion people in the world currently do not have access to safe, nutritious and adequate food. This figure is estimated to increase to 10 billion by 2050.
In this context, food insecurity and hunger are major challenges for the country, government officials said. The government has called for global initiatives and solidarity to raise public awareness of the importance of food and nutrition security globally and to free those affected by the food crisis and famine from that environment.
Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ghanshyam Bhusal said that the government has been moving forward with determination to fulfill the national aspiration of 'Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali' by ending food insecurity and maintaining food security.
Minister Bhusal claimed that the productivity enhancement program has been brought to double the agricultural production in 10 years. Minister Bhusal said that the government has been working with the intention of making the basic resources of production such as fertilizers, seeds, breeds, irrigation and electricity accessible to all at concessional prices based on the concept of 'protected agriculture, guaranteed savings'.
