Nepal Airlines Corporation Celebrates the 62nd Anniversary:
National flag carrier Nepal Airlines Corporation has entered its 62nd year. The corporation was established in the name of the Royal Nepal Airlines Corporation on July 1, 1958. In remembrance of that day, the corporation has been celebrating the foundation day of the corporation on July 1 every year.
The Corporation established by the Nepal Airlines Act, 2019 BS is not only an airline but also an important basis for the development of tourism in Nepal. The Corporation, which has a proud history of discharging business responsibilities in national and international destinations since its inception, is the official vehicle of Nepal's tourism promotion.
The corporation has mentioned that its contribution is not only earning foreign currency but also creating employment and playing a positive role in the overall development of the country. The government-owned corporation is working to consolidate Nepal's presence in the international arena, even as the government's unofficial diplomatic envoy, based on social justice.
Currently, the corporation is playing a significant role in repatriating stranded Nepalese from various countries in the wake of the global crisis created by the Covid-19 epidemic. The corporation, which has the highest number of chartered flights on behalf of Nepali Airlines, has flown more than 58 flights during the period. It has flown nine cargoes from different cities in China.
After rescuing and repatriating Nepalese living in Wuhan, China, where the epidemic of Covid-19 was first seen, a cargo chartered flight has been flown to transport health items in coordination with the government. The corporation had flown a maximum of 12 to 13 hours, the longest flight in its history, to rescue Nepalese in Australia. During the same period, the corporation has chartered flights to 14 more destinations without its presence. Citizens of Brazil, Australia, Maldives, Hong Kong, and Japan who were stranded in Nepal due to the embargo have been rescued and returned to the respective countries through more than 28 flights in coordination with the concerned embassies.
At present, the corporation is operating chartered flights on a concessional basis to rescue Nepalese in 25 different countries. The corporation is currently flying to nine destinations, including three in India. Launched in 1960 by three DC-3 Dakota aircraft with US assistance, the corporation is serving two wide-body A-330s in 2018 for the last time in its 62-year flight history. The corporation had introduced two narrow-body A-320 ships in 2015. The corporation is making necessary preparations for the purpose of commercial flights to various long destinations, including various cities in China.
