NEB Starts Grade Improvement Exam for SEE Students

The National Examination Board (NEB) is set to conduct the grade improvement examination for students who did not pass the Secondary Education Examination (SEE). This exam starts on Wednesday, 2081 Shrawan 23.

Key Details of the Grade Improvement Examination

  • Exam Participation: According to Nandalal Paudel, the Exam Controller for Class 10, approximately 210,000 students are expected to participate in this examination. This arrangement allows students to fill out the necessary forms within their respective districts.

  • Previous SEE Results: The results of the SEE published a month ago showed that only 48% of students passed. Students who received a 'Non-Graded' (NG) status or were absent during the regular exams will be eligible for this supplementary exam. Although 242,000 students failed the exam, only 210,000 will be taking the grade improvement test.

Why the Grade Improvement Exam is Being Offered

  • Opportunity for Students: The National Examination Board made the decision to offer a grade improvement exam because more than half of the students received an NG status, which made them ineligible for further studies in Class 11. This decision provides an opportunity for all students who received an NG grade to improve their scores.

  • Policy Change: Previously, only students who received an NG grade in a maximum of two subjects were eligible to take the grade improvement exam. However, based on a strong recommendation from the then Minister of Education, Science, and Technology, Sumana Shrestha, this provision was expanded to allow all students who failed to take the improvement exam.

Logistics and Costs

  • Examination Centers and Resources: To conduct the examination, 550 centers have been set up across the country. Approximately 600,000 sets of question papers have been printed to cover all subjects. The overall cost for conducting the exam is estimated to be around seven crore rupees.

This grade improvement exam presents a crucial opportunity for students to improve their academic standing and continue their education, demonstrating the board's commitment to supporting students' educational progress.
