Nepali Congress General Secretary Urges Government to Pass Federal Education Act and Establish Education Ombudsman
Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has called on the government to urgently present the "Federal Education Act" to the Parliament. During an event organized by the Education Journalist Group in Kathmandu, General Secretary Thapa emphasized the importance of passing the Act during the current Parliament session. He also suggested the need for an 'Education Ombudsman' to monitor the highly politicized education of classes 11 and 12.
While the Nepali Constitution has assigned the responsibility of educating classes 11 and 12 to the local level, it has become heavily politicized, creating a need for a legal framework to ensure effective monitoring. General Secretary Thapa proposed the establishment of a Lokpal in the province to regulate the education sector and ensure that the constitutional rights of students are not compromised.
General Secretary Thapa's suggestions come at a time when the Nepali education sector is facing several challenges, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on students' education. The pandemic has led to the closure of schools and universities, disrupting the learning process and creating an urgent need for educational reforms.
The proposed Federal Education Act is expected to address these challenges and provide a comprehensive framework for the education sector in Nepal. The Act will cover various aspects of education, including curriculum development, teacher training, and infrastructure development. The Act is expected to promote inclusive and quality education, ensuring that every child has access to education regardless of their social or economic background.
General Secretary Thapa's call for the immediate passage of the Federal Education Act and the establishment of an Education Ombudsman in the province highlights the need for urgent reforms in the Nepali education sector. The proposed reforms are expected to promote quality and inclusive education, ensuring that every student has access to the education they need to succeed in life.
