Multiple Courses will be Taught at Lumbini Buddhist University:
Lumbini Buddhist University has gone into multi-disciplinary. The university, which was established to teach only Buddhist education, religion, and culture, has gone into multiple courses. After the amendment of the University Act 2063, Buddhist University will be able to teach other subjects related to Buddhist philosophy.
Dr. Tilak Acharya, the registrar of the university, said that after the amendment of the law, it has become fully government-owned to allow multi-disciplinary teaching. Earlier, in the preamble of the act, it was mentioned that it would be operated from the grassroots level. By amending the preamble, the word "people's level" has been removed. After Tribhuvan University, Culture, Agriculture, Far West, and Midwestern University in Nepal, Lumbini Buddhist University has come under government ownership.
The enactment of the Act at the grassroots level added complexity to the expansion of educational programs for the university. After the amendment of the law, the university will be comfortable in bed. Now, the university will get the budget as per the demand from the Ministry of Finance instead of grants.
In the preamble of the University Act, it was mentioned that only Buddhist philosophy, literature, education, and culture would be taught. After the amendment, other issues including Buddhist philosophy, literature, education, and culture have been mentioned in the preamble of the act. Registrar Acharya said that Buddhist philosophy would be the main priority after the law allowed multi-disciplinary. "Even if other subjects are conducted, they will be based on Buddhist philosophy," he said. "Buddhist universities will not deviate from Buddhist philosophy, literature, and culture."
Various faculties of Buddhist philosophy and literature are being taught in the central campus of the university, Lumbini. The university, which is teaching travel and tourism and law subjects in Rupandehi, has given affiliation to seven campuses in Kathmandu to teach subjects including engineering. The university plans to teach technical and multi-purpose subjects in conjunction with Buddhist philosophy.
After the amendment of the law, the representatives of the state government will also participate in the assembly of the university. One person from each province, including the chief secretary of the five provinces where the university is located, will be members of the assembly. After the amendment of the Act, the way to give scholarship has also been opened. Registrar Acharya informed that the students of Buddhist universities like other universities will also provide scholarships to the students.
