Mahesh Bhattarai's Appointment as CTEVT Member Secretary

In a significant development in the field of technical education and vocational training, Mahesh Bhattarai has been appointed as the new member secretary of the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT). The announcement came following a decisive cabinet meeting held at the office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.

Bhattarai, who has been serving as the acting member secretary, was chosen for the position among other notable candidates. This appointment marks a culmination of a meticulous selection process overseen by a recommendation committee chaired by National Planning Commission member Rameshchandra Paudel. The committee had been tasked with identifying a suitable candidate for the vacant member secretary position since September.

The selection process involved an extensive review of applications and interviews, with the committee shortlisting eight potential candidates on November 24, 2023. The names of Tek Bahadur Malla and Vinod Badal, alongside Bhattarai, were put forward by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, highlighting the competitive nature of the selection.

With over 12 years of experience within the council, Bhattarai’s appointment comes as a testament to his extensive expertise and dedication in the sector. His role as a joint secretary and his technical background as an engineer were key factors in his selection.

The appointment followed the retirement of the previous member secretary, Jeevnarayan Kafle, who left the position due to age restrictions. Kafle's attempt to extend his term was met with a ruling against him by the Supreme Court in September 2023. Consequently, Bhattarai, being the most senior employee of the Council, was assigned the role of acting member secretary.

The regulations of CTEVT stipulate that gazetted first-class employees, such as a joint secretary with a minimum of five years of service in the council, are eligible to compete for the member secretary position. Bhattarai's ascension to this role is seen as a significant step in the council's efforts to foster and improve technical education and vocational training programs.

The CTEVT plays a crucial role in shaping the future of technical education and vocational training, and Bhattarai's leadership is poised to steer the council towards new heights of success and innovation in this vital sector.
