The Prime Minister and Chancellor of Lumbini Buddhist University Sher Bahadur Deuba said that the return on investment made by the state in the education system could be ensured if education was linked with development.

Speaking at the 13th meeting of the Lumbini Buddhist University here today, he said the achievements gained from the state's investment in the education system would be of great importance in determining the future destination of the country. In this regard, Prime Minister Deuba also urged the Lumbini Buddhist University to carry out academic activities to support the sustainable development policy adopted by the government through Buddhist philosophy and education.

He said, “Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, the center of faith and reverence of the Buddhist community around the world and the birthplace of the Buddha, has its own uniqueness and legitimacy.

The International Buddhist Conference held in Nepal again in 2004 decided that the University should continue to grow and expand as an International Buddhist University to support students, inquirers, and researchers from all over the world interested in studying Buddhist philosophy, education, literature, and culture. There is a need. ”

Nepal has established itself around the world as a region of history, including the sacred sites of Shakyamuni Buddha, Kanakmuni Buddha, and Krakuchhand Buddha, based on the Ashoka Pillars and other archeological objects mentioned in the travel records of the famous Chinese traveler Fahian in the 5th century and Huansan in the 7th century. He expressed the belief that the university would play a leading role in its continuous promotion.

Prime Minister Deuba stressed the need for the university to study and teach various disciplines related to Buddhism and philosophy as well as to make the Buddhist teachings collected in Pali, Sanskrit, Nepali, and Bhote languages timely, sophisticated and practical.

"There is ample potential for a glorious and prosperous country with a long legacy of Buddhist philosophy and tradition. For this, we have to move forward by linking our religion, culture, history with art with the potential of various industries and businesses including the tourism sector. I would like to request the university to take special initiative in this regard, ”he said.

Prime Minister Deuba urged the university, located in Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha, to study and teach various disciplines of Buddhist studies and to make Buddhist teachings timely, sophisticated and practical.

He said, "Due to the growing consumerist mentality in the society, the world is now attracted towards the Arya Ashtanga Marg, especially Samyak Drishti and Smriti Shiksha, in order to find a way to ensure that our future generations do not suffer in the future by disturbing the balance of the natural environment."

He said that it was an important opportunity to introduce Nepal to the world as the birthplace of Buddha and the land of enlightenment through its educational contribution which embodies the fundamental values of Nepali society such as hard work, patience, contentment, and spirituality for peace, prosperity and happy life.

Referring to the essence and purpose of the establishment of the university, Prime Minister Deuba evaluated the academic activities including the development of physical infrastructure, expansion of educational programs, research, and publication so far and hoped that the meeting would guide him in preparing a plan to move forward in the coming days.
