Latest Public Vehicle Fare (Latest Bus Fare) in Nepal from 2080 Shrawan 1: Automatic Fare Adjustment of Inter-Provincial Public Transport in Nepal
Fuel prices play a critical role in dictating the fares of public transport services. They form an important factor in the operational costs of these services, making them particularly susceptible to market fuel price changes. In line with this, the department has a scientific fare adjustment system in place. This system ensures that any significant change (increase or decrease by 5% or more) in the market price of fuel triggers an automatic adjustment of fares for inter-provincial public transport.
The Impact of Fuel Price Changes
As per the department's decision on the date 2078/12/17, the automatic fare adjustment system is activated whenever the fuel price fluctuates by 5% or more. On the date of 2080/02/03, the last adjustment was made when the diesel price was Rs 155/- per litre. However, as of 2080/04/01, the diesel price had fallen to Rs 144.83/- per litre, a reduction by Rs 10.17/-. This represented a 6.56% decrease in price from the last adjustment base price. Therefore, triggering a fare adjustment in accordance with the department's system.
Fare Adjustment for Different Public Transport Types
With this system in place, the fare rates for public transport operating across two or more provinces have been revised effective from 2080/04/01. This adjustment has been applied to various public transportation types and routes.
-
Passenger Vehicles: The fare rate has been decreased by 2.13%. This reduction aims to pass on the benefits of lower fuel prices to the passengers, making inter-provincial travel more affordable.
-
Cargo Vehicles on Mountain Roads: For cargo vehicles operating on challenging mountain roads, the fare rate has been reduced by 2.78%. This adjustment reflects the changing operational costs due to the fluctuating fuel prices.
-
Cargo Vehicles on Terai Route: A greater decrease of 3.09% has been applied for cargo vehicles operating on the Terai route. This reduction is set to positively impact the logistics and transportation industry in these areas.
The updated fare-list for these public transport services operating on restructured inter-provincial routes has been published, keeping all stakeholders informed about these changes.
The automatic adjustment of transportation fares, while primarily based on fuel prices, is also an initiative to promote economic and affordable travel for both passengers and cargo transportation. It's a systematic approach towards ensuring the fare structure remains fair, transparent, and adaptive to the ever-changing market conditions.
