Lalitpur Metropolitan City Includes Road Safety Education in Local Curriculum

In a move to raise awareness about road safety among students, Lalitpur Metropolitan City has included a book titled "Road Safety Education" in its local curriculum. The book is prepared to provide formal education related to road safety and vehicles up to the basic level of schooling.

Formal Introduction of Road Safety Education

The book was formally introduced by artist Madankrishna Shrestha and the head of Lalitpur Mahanagar Chiribabu Maharjan, along with 20 students from various schools. This move is aimed at providing students with practical knowledge of road safety.

Importance of Including Road Safety Education in Curriculum

According to Chiribabu Maharjan, it is essential to provide children with knowledge about road safety from an early age, and thus the subject has been included in the curriculum. The Lalitpur Metropolis is also preparing a curriculum for the secondary level, which will include information about left-side driving and right-side driving.

Book Content

The book covers a wide range of topics related to road safety, such as road traffic, crossing, traffic signs, helmets and seatbelts, roads for all, sports and roads, sky bridges, subways, safety in buses, queuing, drunkenness, traffic rules, cycling, accidents and avoidance, priority treatment, "I am a wise student," and right-wrong. Traffic signs are explained with pictures and letters. The book was edited by Sitaram Hachethu, the city police chief of the metropolis.

Importance of Practical Knowledge

Deputy Chief Manjali Shakya explained that Lalitpur Metropolis has given priority to practical knowledge and has thus kept road safety education in the curriculum. This book will help educate children about road safety and make them aware of the importance of following traffic rules.

The Significance of Following Traffic Rules

Artist Madankrishna Shrestha highlighted that following traffic rules on the road is a sign of civilized citizens. He emphasized that those who follow the law are smart, while those who violate the law are unwise. He also claimed that this book is the first of its kind in South Asia.

Overall, the inclusion of road safety education in the local curriculum is a crucial step towards promoting road safety among students. It will not only raise awareness among children but also help them become responsible citizens who follow traffic rules and regulations.
