The distribution of 80 million liters of Melamchi water has started daily in Kathmandu. The project, which aims to distribute 150 million liters of water daily, started the distribution process on Sunday.

Minister for Drinking Water Umakanta Chaudhary on Sunday resumed redistribution of water from the water tank at Min Bhawan in Baneshwor. According to Prakash Kumar Rai, spokesperson of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited, water has been distributed as a test. He said that water is being distributed from Khumaltar, Bansbari Purano, Panipokhari Purano, Min Bhawan, and Anamnagar tanks.

"Currently, the schedule of water distribution has not been decided, so we are not sure when the water will be distributed from the branches," he said. "We are planning to distribute water in a few days." And in a house that has not been tested, water will come from the old tap.

Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited is preparing to distribute Melamchi water in a proportional manner throughout the Kathmandu Valley. A spokesperson of the company, Prakash Kumar Rai, said that some households could draw water using a big motor and other households could get less water.

It is illegal to groundwater using a motor. He said that action would be taken against the householder if he was found pulling water by using a motor. "We will distribute water to everyone in the valley in a proportionate manner. If anyone is found pulling water using a motor, we will take legal action," he said.
