During Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Lumbini on Monday 16th May 2022, four MoUs and an agreement were signed between Kathmandu University (KU), Tribhuvan University (TU), Lumbini Buddhist University (LBU), and the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) in the field of education.
Kathmandu University of Nepal (KU) and IITM have signed an agreement for conducting joint educational programs at the postgraduate level. Bhola Thapa, Vice-Chancellor of KU, informed that an agreement has been reached with IITM to conduct the joint post-graduate program in the Faculty of Engineering. According to him, KU's School of Engineering and IITM will jointly conduct engineering classes on energy systems in Nepal. A team from IIT is coming to Kathmandu University on Tuesday to start this academic session.
‘Energy system engineering class is going to be conducted, there was a discussion between the two sides to run the program in 9 courses,’; Thapa said, "We will make arrangements for the students to get the educational certificate with the logo of both the universities."
An agreement has been reached between the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Center for Asian Studies (CNAS) at Tribhuvan University to establish an ICCR Chair for Indian Studies. Mrigendra Bahadur Karki, executive director of Sinas, said that the understanding would help in studying Nepal-India relations. "Nepal and India have been studying the way they look at each other in the past," he said.
According to Sinas, the professor of international relations from India will stay in Nepal for the study. CNAS has been studying Asian countries since 1984. Last time, Anjusharan Upadhyaya, a professor of political science, chaired a study on relations between the two countries. Karki said that after the understanding, the Indian professor will help him again at the expense of Sinas.
Similarly, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Lumbini Buddhist University and ICCR to establish Dr. Ambedkar Chair for Buddhist Studies. The agreement was signed to investigate the culture of Buddhist studies in Nepal and India, said Chandra Mani Pokharel, information officer at the Buddhist University. He said, "Professors come to the Buddhist University at the expense of the Government of India. The professors from here and there do research and study on Buddhism and philosophy."
