Kathmandu Metropolitan Municipality (KMC) to Provide Free Legal Consultation Services from Ward Offices
Kathmandu Metropolitan Municipality (KMC) is all set to offer free legal consultation services from all of its 32 ward offices, starting Wednesday, March 15, 2023. This initiative is being taken in collaboration with Nepal Law Campus, and 50 law students have been provided training to offer consultancy services to citizens.
Written and oral legal consultation services will be provided for free at help desks that will be established in ward offices during office hours. This service will be available to citizens from all walks of life, including senior citizens and disabled people who may find it challenging to reach the office.
The law campus is ready to deploy students studying LLM, LLB, and BA LLB to provide consultancy services. In addition to legal consultation, information about other essential services provided by the ward office will also be available to citizens.
To provide this free service, KMC will pay a monthly fee of Rs. 15,000 to Nepal Law Campus, and the educational material required to offer this service will be provided by the Metropolitan Municipality.
KMC expects that with the launch of this service, citizens will find it easier to access legal services. An agreement was reached between KMC and Nepal Law Campus on the 17th of last demand to provide this service.
The provision of free legal consultation services from ward offices will provide citizens with easier access to legal services. KMC's collaboration with Nepal Law Campus and the deployment of law students to offer consultancy services is a commendable initiative that will benefit citizens from all walks of life. With the availability of written and oral legal consultation services and information about other essential services, citizens will be better informed and empowered to take informed decisions.
