Key Highlights

Kathmandu University is proud to showcase exceptional gender parity in the number of its graduates. Of the 2,314 fresh graduates, 1,186 (51.25%) are male and 1,128 (48.75%) are female. A total of 70 students are graduating from Arts, 71 from Education, 366 from Engineering, 97 from Management, 1,565 from Medical Sciences, and 19 from Science.

A go-to destination for international students, KU is at the forefront of internationalizing Nepal’s higher education. 242 students graduating today are international students from 19 countries. Of the total 45,437 graduates of Kathmandu University, 5,467 are international students from 57 countries. That’s an impressive 12-percent international-student ratio.

KU: Investing in Research and Innovation

Kathmandu University (KU) emphasizes research as a crucial component of national growth, international scientific advancement, and education. The university offers a unique provision under the Credit Accumulation Framework (CAF) and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), enabling working professionals to earn a degree without disrupting their regular schedules.

KU provides over 230 academic programs and courses, ranging from Bachelors to Ph.D. levels, many of which are introduced for the first time in Nepal. Additionally, KU has established multiple joint degree programs internationally, including:

School of Arts: Adding Meaning, Purpose, and Value to Life

Kathmandu University School of Arts (KUSOA) promotes professional knowledge, understanding, and skills in the development of arts, culture, and other social and economic potentials of human resources. The school offers seven undergraduate programs and seven graduate programs in the fields of humanities, music, fine arts, and social sciences. It currently offers PhD degrees in Communication, Nepali language, English language, and Development Studies.

The school provides over three dozen unique programs in development studies, indigenous knowledge, educational leadership, early childhood education, language education, writing and literacy studies, STEAM education, TEVT, and school counseling.

Kathmandu University School of Engineering (KUSOE) offers undergraduate and graduate programs in disciplines such as Architecture, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical and Electronics, Geomatics, and Mechanical Engineering, among others. The curriculum blends both theoretical knowledge with practical application, preparing students to tackle real-world challenges. A key highlight of the School is its advanced infrastructure, which includes state-of-the-art laboratories, research centers, and workshops. Notable facilities include the Turbine Testing Lab and the Green Hydrogen Lab, which support cutting-edge research in emerging technologies.

Over the years, KUSOE has built strong partnerships with international universities and organizations, enabling collaborative research and student exchange programs. Kathmandu University School of Law (KUSOL) has become a premier destination for students interested in establishing a successful career in law. Graduates from KUSOL have been admitted to graduate programs in law at prestigious academic institutions worldwide, including the University of Cambridge and Harvard University. KUSOL offers integrated academic programs such as Bachelor of Business Management and Bachelor of Law (BBM-LL.B.), a 5-year law program with additional exposure to management.

The integrated Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Law (BEco-LL.B.) program aims to create modern lawyers skilled in the basics of economics. KUSOL also offers a Master’s degree in Energy and Infrastructure Law (LL.M/MEIL) designed for graduates of Bachelor’s programs in Law, Engineering, Business Management/Administration, or Economics.

KUSOL is preparing to start a new Master’s degree in Corporate and Business Law and conduct short and mid-term professional legal training programs in emerging fields of law. KUSOL also aims to establish and support a Law Clinic, which allows students to gain hands-on experience in the legal profession and the community. A significant focus will be placed on enhancing KUSOL’s relationship with local governments of Kavrepalanchok District by providing legal support and engaging students in community legal awareness programs.

School of Management: Serving to Professionalize Management

Kathmandu University School of Management (KUSOM) is the first school to launch a graduate program at the university and the first to initiate a master’s level program – Master of Business Administration (MBA) – in Nepal. KUSOM offers undergraduate, graduate, and research degree programs such as Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Business Information Systems, Bachelor of Business Information System, Bachelor in Hospitality Management, Masters in Business Administration, Masters in Business and Management, Master of Public Policy and Management, Executive Master of Business Administration, MPhil in Management, and PhD in Management. The school launched the Bachelor of Aviation Management in 2024 to provide students with the skills and knowledge to effectively manage aviation operations, airlines, and airports.

KUSOM provides specialized professional services to its stakeholders through three units at the school – Placement Cell, Enterprise and Management Development Center, and Policy Lab. The cell aims to bridge the gap between academia and the corporate world; the center is working to deliver professional management services directly to business and development organizations; and the lab has been working to deal with public policy problems in the country.

KUSOM is launching an Executive Master of Business Administration (International) and Masters in Family Business. Other programs like Masters in Data Analytics, and Masters in Business Information Systems are being conceptualized.

School of Medical Sciences: Excellence in Healthcare

Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences (KUSMS) emphasizes hands-on clinical experience, with students starting clinical exposure earlier compared to traditional curricula. KUSMS has introduced a problem-based learning (PBL) approach in its curriculum. It offers a range of postgraduate courses, including MD/MS/MDS programs in various specialties. Such expansion of postgraduate programs has been instrumental in producing specialists who serve both nationally and internationally. Almost half of Nepal's currently practicing doctors are KU graduates.

KUSMS is involved in various research activities, particularly in public health, tropical medicine, and healthcare delivery in resource-limited settings. The institution encourages both faculty and students to participate in research, contributing to advancements in medical science, especially in the context of Nepal’s health challenges.

KUSMS plans on expanding educational programs, research innovation, simulation learning, infrastructure development, and simulation learning for its undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Many of its graduates are serving in different parts of Nepal, addressing the healthcare needs of the communities in the country. KUSMS has played a critical role during public health crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

School of Science: Transforming Science to Skills, Access, and Innovation

Kathmandu University School of Science (KUSOS) offers programs in Biotechnology, Environmental Science and Engineering, Mathematics, Pharmacy, Physics, and Agriculture. KUSOS has been establishing new benchmarks of excellence in research geared toward solving some of the most pressing problems facing modern society and helping students become agents of change. The school promotes innovation in global business fostered by entrepreneurial endeavors that introduce novel concepts to existing companies in the field of science.

KUSOS trains students in both technical and non-technical abilities in preparation for the new opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. Research forms the bedrock of KUSOS’s efforts at generating academic knowledge and developing technology that is useful to mankind.

KUSOS has recently started a BSc in Bioinformatics and is soon going to start a Data Science program under the Department of Mathematics that will fulfill the latest need of the modern technology in data analysis to the new generations. These two programs will contribute to genetic engineering, medical diagnosis methodologies, and computer-based modern programs for the establishment of various new data-based companies in the field of science in Nepal.
